Donald McIntosh of Dawsonville, GA came to Dixie Speedway in Woodstock, GA Saturday night holding the points lead in the Super Late Model Division, but having yet to win a feature.

That all changed when the checkered flag flew at the end of the 30 lap feature, as McIntosh scored his first ever Super Late Model win.

“This win was a long time coming,” said McIntosh after the race. “We have worked so hard since we moved up to Supers and we have had a lot of challenges. On one hand we have been pretty consistent, which shows in our standings in the points right now, but we have been wanting to get a win. It felt so good to see that checkered flag waving for us tonight and I really hope we put on a good show for the fans.”

Jake Knowles took fast time in qualifying but spun a four on the invert wheel putting McIntosh on the pole for the feature. McIntosh took the lead at the green and was immediately pursued by the Chastain Brothers, Johnny and Shawn. As the race progressed, with several cautions thrown in along the way, Shawn Chastain fell out of the race leaving brother Johnny to fend off Jason Croft for second. Croft gained second on lap 19 only to hold it seven laps before Chastain was able to regain the position. Meanwhile up front, McIntosh led the way to the checkers for the victory, followed by Johnny Chastain in second, Jason Croft in third, Jake Knowles in fourth, and Austin Smith in fifth.

“Leading points here at Dixie means so much to me. This is my home track and I won the Crate (division) championship here two years ago,” he said. “This group of drivers that race Super each week are incredibly talented and, of course, very competitive, so to be up there in the hunt with them without having a win under our belt until now is nothing short of amazing. I am truly blessed to be able to compete with them each week at such an awesome facility with such incredible fans.”

In other action, Mike McConnell grabbed the Limited Late Model lead on lap three and looked to be heading for another win until he was passed on the outside by Doug Stevens. Stevens went on to pick up his first win of the season. With the point season winding down and only a handful of races left, Stevens was protested and found to be legal. This left McConnell in second followed by Jason Smith, Oliver Gentry, and Dusty Chitwood.

The Crate Late Model Race made a splash in the history books of Dixie Speedway as 15 year old Maddie Crane of Meansville, GA became only the third woman to win a feature at the historical speedway competing against men. Crane took the checkered flag to the cheers of the crowd ahead of Justin Shipley, Henry Ward, Zach Pilcher, and Jeff Dernehel. Again, with only a handful of point races left in a tight points battle, protests were lodged, but Crane was found legal after post race inspection were over.

Kirk Atkins took his fifth win of the season in the Super Bomber class. Atkins led the way for the entire distance with Daniel Brewer, Andy Morris, Josh Pilcher and Zackery Dunn trailing behind to complete the top five.

Shane Smith found himself once again in victory lane in the Economy Bomber feature. Smith had to get around James Gagnon in the beginning laps and then hold off Dan Meadows for the final five laps to get the win. Meadows settled for second, followed by David Burtz in third, with Gagnon holding on to fourth, and Ryan Ray in fifth.

Shannon Etheridge showed the way to the checkers in the Pony Stock feature as he took his fifth win of the season. Jamie Cross held off Ronnie Faucett for second as David Kirkland and William Garrett followed in fourth and fifth.

Todd Lankster started dead last in the Cruiser feature and made his way to the front to grab win number six. Brothers George and Jimmy Wilson followed in second and third with Tim Pittman and Randy Ledford rounding out the top five.
