Ralph Carnes continued his early domination at Anderson Motor Speedway in Williamston, SC Friday night with his second straight Late Model victory at the 3/8 mile speedway.
In time trials, Carnes was the fastest qualifier with a time of 15.051 seconds. The top seven were inverted for the start of the fourteen car race which placed Trace Reeves and Mark Burdette on the front row. Reeves led the first two laps before he was passed on lap three by Austin Aker. Aker led until lap 35 when there was contact between he and Randy Porter which sent him into the turn four inside wall. The night was over for Aker while Porter went to the rear and soon after to the pits.
R.A. Brown assumed the lead on the restart. Brown led until lap 47 when he was rear ended by Carnes, which sent him up the track in turn four and allowed Carnes to take over the lead. Brown made a bid the final two laps but Carnes held him off for the victory. After the race Carnes apologized to Brown for getting into him. Brown finished second, with Justin Sorrow in third, Neil Meredith in fourth, and Eric Stokes in fifth.
In other action, Chad Campbell scored the victory in the Mini Stock division. Darnell led the first six laps of the race but on lap seven he and Campbell were side by side at the line. At the end of the lap B.J. Thrasher joined in to make it a three car battle, which resulted in contact between him and Campbell, sending Campbell around in turn four. Thrasher and Campbell were both placed in the rear. Darnell resumed his pace at the front while Campbell battled from the rear. On lap 14 another three car incident brought out the caution once again. By this time Campbell had moved back to the second position. Campbell took over the lead on lap 18 and went on to pick up his third victory in a row. David Darnell finished second. Brandon Segars finished third. Ben Kay finished fourth. Ryan Howard finished fifth.
Robin Darnell came away with the win in the Evergreen Renegade feature. Darnell led every lap of the race but the victory did not come easily. Bradley Williams claimed the victory in the Front Wheel Drive feature. Williams led every lap of the race on his way to his first victory of the season. On what could have been the final lap, Williams and B.J. Davis, who were running first and second, slowed down the back stretch, allowing C.J. Huitt to blow by them and receive the checkered flag. After a lengthy conversation between the track officials it was determined that the track radio man yelled caution over the race receivers after the white flag had dropped on the race. He had seen a car turned sideways in one of the turns that the flagman did not see. The official did what he believed was best and a safety call. This prompted Williams and Davis to slow down which allowed Huitt to go by them. The track officials decided to score the win based on the white flag lap and when the white flag dropped Williams was the leader. BJ Davis finished second. CJ Huitt finished third. Shawn Mize finished fourth. Dusty Simmons finished fifth.
