Tony Knowles, of Tyrone, GA took the lead of the Super Late Model portion of the Dixie Speedway Spring Championships and never looked back to take his second win in row at the historic Woodstock, GA speedway.
Although the win looked easy, Tony had to fight off cousin Jake Knowles several times and by the closing laps both struggled to hold off Chattanooga’s Ronnie Johnson, who had steadily worked his way through the field. When the checkers fell, Knowles had win number two. Jake Knowles held off Johnson for second with Luther Jenkins and Donald McIntosh completing the top five.
The Limited Late Model feature outcome was unknown for several hours as a Protest was lodged against winner Mike McConnell. After everything was checked over, McConnell was declared legal giving him his second win in a row. During the feature a lively race was held amongst the cars running second thru fifth. After positions swapped back and forth, Michael Brewer found himself in the second spot followed closely by Cass Fowler. Rounding out the top five were Chris Fennell and Alan Brewer.
Craig Reece found his way to victory lane in the Crate Late Model Championship feature after the dust settled. Reece took the lead at the green, only stopping midway when the red flag was thrown after a melee on the frontstretch saw Petey Cochran on his roof. All drivers were uninjured and the green once again flew with Reece talking the point. Mark Page grabbed second after battling his father Chuck several laps. Chuck’s car began to fade but he was able to complete the race in fifth. Rookie Justin Shipley made his way to third followed by Pete Cochran, father of Petey.
Lap six of the Super Bomber feature brought a hush to the crowd when two cars spun sending everybody looking for a way around causing a huge wreck that had Blant Duke on his roof with another car on top of him. When the race resumed, Kenny Taylor crossed the line in second only to get the win after the apparent winner was DQ’d in post race inspection. Rounding out the top five were Timmy Millwood, Richard Bagby, Kirk Atkins and Daniel Brewer.
David Beam took a big lead in the Economy Bomber feature and looked to be heading for and easy win. With the closing laps, Cody Czobat suddenly made his presence known after starting close to the rear. Beam held his lead with Czobat in second. Last week’s winner, Shane Smith was forced to settle for third followed by Tyler Williams and Kenneth Burns.
Jamie Cross took his first ever Dixie win in Pony Stocks, finishing ahead of last weeks winner Jeremy Millsaps. Matt Smith, Shannon Etheridge, and Ronnie Faucett completed the top five.
The Cruiser feature would see Tony Newman take the checkers followed by Todd Lancaster, Brian Dempsey, Jimmy Wilson, and George Wilson.
