To enhance its status as the official European NASCAR series, the 2013 Euro-Racecar NASCAR Touring Series calendar has been tailored to offer the same mix of challenges as its American counterparts by challenging drivers on three different styles of circuit – short track, intermediate and high-speed.
New additions to the schedule for the coming year include Dijon (France) and Monza (Italy). The French circuit was previously on the calendar in 2009 and 2010, and sees drivers tackle a high-speed course comparable with the iconic Watkins Glen (NY) International. Monza, meanwhile, ranks among Europe’s most historic venues. For 90 years the Milanese track has been known for its speed. It will be an opportunity for the V8-powered Euro-Racecar machines to display their horsepower.
The two short-track events should prove to be intense. In early June the series travels to the Brands Hatch (UK) Indy circuit which will provide the perfect backdrop for a weekend dedicated to American motorsport with Euro-Racecar providing the main attraction. France’s Tours Speedway hosts its second event in early July. As the only oval race on the slate of events, it’s quickly becoming the Daytona 500 for the series and its competitors. This unique European oval race, which during last year’s inaugural running more than fulfilled its promise, will include a new layout aimed at making the track even more challenging while ramping up the intensity of this spectacular event.
In keeping with tradition, French venues will open and close the season. The season will kick off on March 31 and April 1 at Nogaro on Circuit Paul Armagnac providing locals in the Gers region another reason to look forward to the Easter weekend. An equally passionate crowd certainly will be entertained at Le Mans. The historic venue once again will host the series’ Finals at which the Elite and Open Division champions will be crowned.
In 2013 the Euro-Racecar NASCAR Touring Series will adopt a new format for the Elite and Open classes while also introducing an Endurance Challenge. This new test of strength and stamina will be a special non-points six-hour race contested at Spain’s Motorland Aragón on Sept. 1. Further details on the new formats and the Spanish endurance race will be released when available.
