Ronnie Bassett, Jr. visited victory lane for the fourth time in four races at Anderson Motor Speedway in Williamston, SC this past Saturday in the UARA-STARS Goodyear 150. Returning to UARA competition, the 16 year old showed up as the defending race winner and seeking redemption. He walked away with both goals accomplished.
Anderson has been an Achilles heel for Ronnie Bassett, Jr. as he has taken the flag in all four of his starts, but has had two of them thrown out in tech inspection. Each time Bassett has come back and proven neither of the infractions made the difference in him claiming the checkered flag.
The Bassett Racing team showed up at the track late Friday with only one hour of practice remaining. After receiving their motor early Friday morning they worked through the night to finish converting the car from their Martinsville test session last Wednesday.
From the start Bassett was confident in his car and proved to have a fast racecar as he topped the charts in final practice. Bassett posted a lap of 15.692 in qualifying giving him the third starting position just eight one-hundredths behind pole sitter Travis Swaim.
Rarely has Ronnie Bassett, Jr. won a race by taking the lead early and driving away. This weekend the team had the same strategy as always, conservation and patience. The race is not won in the first 125 laps, but rather how good your car handles in the final circuits.

When the green flag dropped Bassett, Jr. dropped as far back as eighth and rode letting the locals jump out to an early lead. It appeared the field behind Bassett would try “Bulldog’s” strategy by riding behind him to set their pace. By lap 50 he worked his way back into the top five and was fourth when the field started to fall back to him by lap 109 when the caution waived.
Bassett Jr. took the second position on the restart at lap 120 and was able to take the lead from local driver Ralph Carnes following the lap 129 restart. Jeremy Burns followed Bassett past Carnes and was able to challenge for a couple laps before Bassett pulled away.
There was one last restart on lap 133, and while others attempted Bassett’s strategy no one was able to take the lead from Ronnie Bassett Jr. as he set sail to claim the checkered flag and put his #04 Bassett Gutters and More Ford in victory lane.
“This team is awesome,” said Bassett Jr. “They never give up. When we hit a snag we push through. To come out with another win is incredible.”
In ten UARA races this season Ronnie Bassett Jr. has four official wins, and two runner-up finishes in addition to his five NWAAS victories. On October 21 he will make his first appearance in the Virginia is for Racing Lovers 300 at Martinsville Speedway.
