United Sprint Car Series National points leader Tim Crawley, from Benton, AR chased Anthony Nicholson for the first 22 laps of the 30 USCS main event at Albany Motor Speedway in Albany, GA on Saturday night before racing into the lead on lap 23 after Nicholson, who appeared to be headed to his second win of the 2012 season, spun exiting turn two of the quarter-mile South Georgia clay oval while encountering lap traffic.
It was Crawley’s second visit to the USCS victory lane in a row and 14th of the season. Defending USCS National Champion Terry Gray raced to the finish line behind Crawley in the runner-up spot. Nicholson, who only lost three positions during his complete spin, recovered to collect the third place K&N Filters Podium Award. Morgan Turpen finished in fourth place after starting sixth. Also in action at Albany was the USCA 600 Sprint Car Series. Defending series champ Bobby Zaiontz from Columbus, MS charged from his inside row two starting spot into the lead in turn three of lap one and never looked back on his way to victory lane.
It was Zaiontz’s 13th win in USCS 600 competition during the 2012 season. Chris Openshaw crossed the finish line in the runner-up spot. Mike Magic finished in the K&N Filters Podium Award third place. Bob Trapino, who started in the K&N Filters Pole Position, followed Magic in fourth place. One of the evening’s two Hoosier Speed Dash winners, Ron Bishop rounded out the top five drivers.
Sean Hosey led the next group of drivers in sixth place. Cassie Klenke followed Hosey to the finish line in seventh place. Tyler Price and 12 year-old Brandon Taylor finished eighth and ninth respectively. Veteran racer Darrell Spraque completed the field.
