The colors were different but the results were the same as Bubba Pollard won a fourth-consecutive Lee Fields Memorial 150 Sunday afternoon at Mobile International Speedway in Mobile, AL. Pollard introduced his new sponsor, JEGS, to Mobile and christened it with his first pro late model win of the season.

Pollard was presented the Lee Fields Memorial championship belt by professional wrestling pioneer, Cowboy Bob Kelly. The belt is a tribute to fellow wrestling pioneer, Lee Fields, the long-time owner and promoter of Mobile International Speedway. This is the second year the Speedway has offered the Dave Millican-designed championship belt to the winner and Pollard is a perfect two-for-two.

“These belts are the coolest trophies I have,” Pollard said. “It’s the perfect way to honor Lee Fields and the tradition of this race track and I want to keep winning these things as long as they offer them.”

Mike Garvey, Josh Bragg, David Jones and Anderson Bowen completed the top-5.

The podium finish also completed a banner day for Bragg Racing Group as Josh Bragg secured his first-ever Midwest Cooling Towers Pro-Late Model Championship by six points over Bryce Dulabhan who struggled to a sixth-place finish.

The top-three were the class of the field all weekend with the trio combining to lead the entire race. Bragg started on the pole and led the 65 laps of the race before finally giving way to Pollard. Meanwhile, Garvey suffered a flat tire early in the race and brought out the first caution on lap 13 by spinning off of turn two. Garvey lost a lap but would later earn a lucky dog and fight his way towards the front.

Garvey eventually found himself on the front row of a lap 95 restart and snookered the lead away from Pollard, keeping it throughout two restart and 17 laps. Pollard retook the lead on a lap 113 restart and never looked back.

Bryce Dulabhan entered Sunday’s race with the championship lead but just fell short of the crown by finishing sixth to Bragg’s third. Despite coming up six points short, the rookie’s sixth place is a testament to the driver and his team. Dulabhan battled a lot adversity on Sunday, suffering flat tires, body damage and a generally ill-handling race car. Dulabhan did win the Rookie of the Year title and is rapidly becoming one of the top late model prospects in the country.

Island Motor II Bombers

Jerry Goff Jr. opened the show on Sunday afternoon with a dominant victory, leading every lap of the 15-lap Island Motor II Bomber feature. It was Goff’s second victory of the season and capped a banner day for Day Racing which placed all three of its cars on the podium. That includes championship contenders Brandon Tipton and Jayme Corry, who finished second and third respectively.

Goff started second to pole-sitter Corry, but beat his teammate to the entrance of turn one. Tipton was able to follow Goff around Corry, and the three would run nose-to-tail for the remainder of the race.

“These day races really shake things up with tire management,” Goff said. “I could feel Brandon right on my bumber and I just drove deep in the corner and forced it to stick.”

The close consistent finishes will ensure that the championship goes down to the final race with Tipton leading Corry by just 41 points.

Bob’s Speed Shop Sportsman

Chad Robinson started the 20-lap Bob’s Speed Shop Sportsman feature from the pole, led wire-to-wire, and won his sixth race of the season on Sunday afternoon at Mobile International Speedway.

The victory was especially momentous for Robinson, who celebrated with a massive burnout on the speedway’s frontstretch. After all, Robinson considered Sunday’s race a bucket-list victory.

“The Lee Fields race is something everyone circles on the calendar,” Robinson said. “This is about more than the late models. This is about Mobile International Speedway and the fans. I’m just proud that we put on a good show.”

Lee “Red Dog” Reynolds qualified third and had perhaps the only car that could challenge Robinson based on speed. However, Reynolds found himself stuck behind Michael Sanford and wasn’t able to complete the pass until two laps to go. He was able to reach Robinson bumper but was not able to complete the pass.

The top three ran single file for a majority of the race, the dramatic effects of a slick track washed in sunshine – a first for the sportsman division this season.

Alabama Pipe and Supply Modifieds

Donald Crocker led every single lap, from the pole, and collected his division-leading fourth win in the 20-lap Alabama Pipe and Supply Modifed feature race Sunday afternoon at Mobile International Speedway.

The speedway’s only local open-wheel division, the modifieds have regularly put on some of the most competitive and clean exhibitions of the season. Sunday afternoon was no different with several side-by-side passes taking place with minimal contact between the class.

The wealth of talent represented in the field should not be taken lightly and was best-represented by Sunday’s race.

Praytor Realty Super Stock-Trucks

Okie Mason held-off a hard-charging Chopper Stagner in the closing laps to win the 20-lap Praytor Realty Super Stocks-Trucks division Sunday night.

Mason led every lap from the pole but couldn’t widen the gap between himself and Stagner, the difference coming as a result of Stagner’s difficulty passing lap traffic. Mason weaved in-and-out of traffic with relative ease, earning his third win of the season.
