Roberts Scores Rupert Porter Memorial At Anderson

David Roberts started out the night topping 20 other cars in time trials, then went on to win the third annual Rupert Porter Memorial Shrine Race at Anderson Motor Speedway in Williamston, SC Friday night.

To start the night Roberts went out and qualified with the fastest time of 15.124 seconds, thereby winning the $100 Fast Qualifier Award posted by Lindsey’s Ring & Pinion.  Then Roberts was honored before the race when he was the first driver to walk to the front stretch and speak with one of the Shriner’s Hospital patients whom wanted to meet a race car driver.

Next a one was rolled on the dice which determined how many cars were inverted to start the race.  This placed the field straight up for the start and placed Roberts on the pole position for the start.

Roberts grabbed the lead on the first lap of the race and although he may have looked back several times where he got a mirror full of R.A. Brown’s car, he never looked back when it came to the overall race.  Roberts led every lap of the race and took the checkered flag with Brown finishing second and Randy Porter third.  Following the race Porter protested Roberts and Brown but both were determined to be legal.  Ralph Carnes finished fourth.  Scott Bishop finished fifth.

In other action, Shon Gibson claimed the win in the B-M Modified division.  Gibson led every lap of the race as he picked up his first victory of the season and became the seventh different B-M Modified winner this season.  Austin Northcutt finished second.  Mark Burdette finished third.  Lance Jones finished fourth.  Robert Marshall finished fifth.

Joey Kelly came home first in the Front Wheel Drive race.  Kelly passed J.J. Williams at the end of lap three and never looked back as he led the remainder of the laps and picked up his first victory of the season. Tommy Davis came on strong near the end of the race but ran out of laps. Don Tavernia led the first lap of the race.  Williams took over the top spot on lap two.  Tommy Davis finished second.  Williams finished third.  Chris Harvell finished fourth.  Michael Anthony finished fifth.

Joey Padgett scored the victory in the US Legends feature.  Riley Thornton led the first four laps of the race.  Aiden Landauer passed Thornton on lap five and remained at the front until lap fourteen when he relinquished the top spot to eventual victor Padgett.  Padgett held off Justin Bolton the final laps of the race in order to secure his third victory of the season.  Bolton finished second.  Randy Gunter finished third.  Julia Landauer finished fourth.  Rex Brown finished fifth.

Ricky Burnett grabbed the win in the $500 to win, 30 lap Renegade feature.  Burnett led every lap of the race on his way to his 12th victory of the season.  Numerous cautions ate  up most of the first 15 laps as caution laps counted during the first fifteen laps of the race.  Robin Darnell pressed Burnett several times during the race and tried to pass him on the high side but eventually wore out his tires and dropped off the pace.  Chad Watt finished second.  Darnell finished third.  Brad Burns finished fourth.  Blake Gregory finished fifth.

Barry Tollison, Jr. claimed the win in the Super Renegade race.  Sammy Staggs led the first five laps before he lost the top spot to Tollison Jr.  Once out front, Tollison Jr pulled to a two car length advantage and held it the remainder of the race.  Staggs finished second.  Barry Tollison, Sr. finished third.  Nick Sears finished fourth.  David Whitaker finished fifth.

David Darnell picked up the win in the B-Mini Stock division.  Darnell led every lap of the race and was never challenged for the top position.  The victory was the eighth of the season for Darnell.  Aaron Colvert finished second.  Chad Campbell finished third.  Scotty Beck finished fourth.  Ben Kay finished fifth.

Dylan Hall was first across the finish line in the C-Mini Stock division.  Hall led every lap of the race on his way to his tenth victory of the season.  Chris Whitfield finished second.  Brandon Segars finished third.  Trae Leppard finished fourth.  Brian Porter finished fifth.
