Clint Smith Gets Rain Shortened Rome Boss Victory

Clint Smith took the lead at the green flag in the Rome Boss 50 lapper Sunday night at Rome Speedway in Rome, GA being chased by several drivers intending to take the $4000 to win feature for themselves.

With a yellow flying on lap 27, the field was once again grouped close together for a restart. The green flew and as the field went full bore into the third turn when a sudden rain hit covering the track with water in seconds. All drivers slowed and were able to leave the track with no damage.

With the red flag out and the race over the halfway point the race was called official. Following Smith across the line was Ivedent Lloyd, Derek Ellis, Dale Thurman, and Jason Hiett.

In other action, Jake Herrell took the win in the Limited Late Model becoming the first repeat winner in the class this season. Oliver Gentry followed in second chased by Rucker Orr in third. Michael Brewer and Cass Fowler completed the top five.

Willie Winsome, of Ketchum, AL took the Super Bomber win taking the lead with just a few laps left. Roy Patterson and Kirk Atkins drove hard to get the win but in the end were forced to settle in second and third respectively. Mike Bruner followed in fourth while Benton Morris survived several spins to take fifth.

Chris Blalock held off held off Ricky Lathem and Shane Smith for the Economy Bomber win.  David Beam and Luke Gaskins completed the top five.

Shannon Etheridge took the checkers ahead of Grady Stokes, Eric Granger, Brice Lovitt, and Terry Baxter in the Pony Stock.

The Crate Late Model and Cruisers were both rained out.
