It was another packed house Saturday night at Hartwell Speedway in Hartwell, GA as the best of the best showed up and showed out. Royston, GA’s Otis Fleeman took home the big payday in the Stock V8 class claiming the victory in the All Star Challenge.
Fleeman and Jesse Thurmond had fans on their feet cheering on their favorite as the two duked it out for 15 laps in a side by side battle to the checkered flag. Thurmond was flagged the winner, but was found to have no mufflers in post-race tech, leading to a disqualification. That gave the win to Fleeman, with Terry Brown in second, Kevin Gooch in third, Michael Segars in fourth, and Ricky Chamberlain in fifth.
On a more somber note, Hartwell Speedway also took a few moments to recognize dirt track legend Buck Simmons’ passing along with long time fan Donald Page, who also recently passed away, with a traditional memorial lap. Family and friends from both gentlemen where on had to participate in the ceremony, including Gerald Voyles, who was the long time car owner of Buck Simmons. Voyles’ grandson, Adam Smith, carried the checkered flag Simmons got after winning his 1,000th race.
In other racing action, Bubba Russell scored his second straight victory in the Limited Late Model feature, beating out Parker Herring at the finish line. Brandon Haley came across in third, with Shane Yarbrough in fourth, and Tyler Harvey in fifth.
In FASTRAK Late Model action, it was “Hot Rod” LaMance picking up the victory. Frankie Beard finished second, with Kyre Mullaney in third, Nathan Bray in fourth, and Colby Cannon in fifth.
Chris Cape came home with the Modified Street victory. Paul Byrum finished second, with Justin Dowell, Richard Jones, and Rusty Jordan rounding out the top five.
In the Stock Four Cylinder feature, Bryce Alewine picked up the win. Cody Byrum came home second, with Ryan Boles in third, Dustin Bales in fourth, and Kyle Dean in fifth.
Drew Collins won the Young Guns feature, beating out Mason Tucker at the end. Jessica Still finished third, with Adam Partain fourth, and Mitchell Leford fifth.
Keith Hicks added another win to his tally in the Up Front division. Michael Mosley ran second, followed by Seth Brown and Kevin Cox.
