With overcast skies and cooler tempertures, the racefans and drivers made their way to Dixie Speedway in Woodstock GA for a full night of racing on Saturday.
Ronnie Johnson of Chattanooga made a rare appearance to the track. He would start the Super Late Model feature on the outside of the front row, and grabbed the initial lead at the green flag. Dale Thurman took up the chase in second hoping to get around Johnson for the lead, but unfortunately Johnson’s fan belts saved Thurman the trouble as they broke ending Johnson’s night.
Thurman took over the lead at the restart only to see an immediate Yellow/Red Flag situation in turn one that gathered up several cars and saw Eddie Blackmon come to a stop after sliding several yards on his roof. All the drivers were unhurt in the melee although saw their race ended.
With the restart underway, Thurman looked to have the feature in the bag until five laps to go, Tony Knowles suddenly made his move on the outside groove taking the lead away from Thurman to take the win. Thurman settled for second while Luther Jenkins fought off a last challenge from Michael Page to hold third. Chip Brindle made his way home in fifth.
In one of the toughest events of the night, Scottie Pritchett took the Limited Late Model Championship while behind him it was anyone’s race. Rucker Orr took up the second spot for most of the feature, losing it to Zack Pilcher on lap 21, who in turn would lose it to Oliver Gentry two laps later. Gentry remained in second to the finish followed by Michael Brewer. Richard Goode made a last lap pass on Orr to take fourth with Orr settling for fifth.
Chuck Page held off all challenges from Craig Reece and Hunter Ward to take the Crate Late Model show. Justin Shipley made his first ever start in the Crate cars finishing a very respectable fourth place followed by Darel Ownbey in fifth.
The Super Bomber feature would see Andy Morris hold off all challenges for the win tonight holding off a fast moving Kirk Atkins who raced his way from a dead last start position forcing him to settle for second. Rounding out the top five would see Roy Patterson, Bobby Hill, and Wormdog Baxter swap positions several times before crossing the checkers in that order.
Eric Hamby looked to have the Economy Bomber feature in the bag until the last lap when he was passed by Shane Smith in lapped traffic. Smith took the win with Hamby settling for second. Dan Mdeadows took third followed by Cody Richards and Bryne Duren to round out the top five.
In the closest finish of the night, a blanket could have been tossed over the top three Pony Stock racers when they crossed the finish line. With protest being lodged, second place finisher Jeremy Ray took home the win after the initial winner was found wrong and DQ’d. Shannon Etheridge moved up to second followed by Ronnie Faucett, Landon Bagby, and Eric Granger.
The team of Edwin Scott & Wes Chavez took the Cruiser feature.
