Fireworks in the air will wrap up a night of fireworks on the track Saturday night at Mobile International Speedway in Irvington, AL, as the Alabama Pipe and Supply Modifieds duke it out in a special feature race for $1,500 to win. The Halls Motorsports Motorcycles, Bob’s Speed Shop Sportsman and the Island Motors II Bombers also compete in  heat and feature races.

Alabama Pipe and Supply Modifieds $1,500 to Win

Competition in the Alabama Pipe and Supply Modified division is about to reach an all-time high as the open-wheel warriors take center stage in a main-event $1,500 shootout, Saturday night at Mobile International Speedway.

$1,500 to win will entice some of the best modified drivers in the Southeast to do battle on Saturday night.  To take home the big check they’ll have to get by two of Mobile’s best, namely Donnie Hamrac and Gerald Wilkerson. Hamrac and Wilkerson hold multiple titles in almost every division at the Speedway.

Halls Motorsports Motorcycles

Track records are expected to fall again as the Halls Motorsports Motorcycles make their much-anticipated return to Mobile International Speedway on Saturday night.

Rob McLendon, a 3rd generation Motorcycle racer, set the current record by recording a 21.129 on April 15. The previous record was set by McLendon last August. If McClendon, nicknamed “Robbie Bobby”, a take off from his favorite movie Talladega Nights, can break the record again in qualifying we can expect to see the “Magic Man” in the feature.

McLendon will have his hands full with an increasing numbers of bikes coming to take on the smooth high banked asphalt of Mobile.

Island Motor II Bombers

No division at Mobile is more retro than the Island Motor II Bombers, where Day Racing teammates Brandon Tipton and Jayme Corry are locked in the closest championship battle currently contested at Alabama’s fastest Half-mile.

Both drivers have won four times, but Tipton leads the standings by 54 points by virtue of consistency and his nine pole positions in qualifying. Roughly halfway through the season, Tipton has his eyes firmly set on the prize.

“I think it’s very important that we close out this championship,” Tipton said. “We’ve faced a lot of ups and downs through the years and this championship will mean a lot.”

Corry never expected to compete for a championship this early in his career. And to be in the championship mix with his teammate is just an added bonus. There’s a lot of respect and admiration between the two.

“We have a pretty fair relationship,” Corry said of his teammate. “There’s the occasional difference but we’re family on Saturdays. We’ve grown up together and to be able to race for this championship is just great.”

Rusty Powell Sr. is the only other driver to have scored a feature victory in the division this year, but the “Bomber King” has spent a majority of the season running third behind Tipton and Corry. Powell sees a lot of talent and promise sitting in the No. 38 and 98 cars.

“Jayme and Brandon are great wheelmen,” Powell conceded. “DRT has always had fast cars and great drivers and I really enjoy racing with them. With that said, if DRT slips-up I’ll be right there to take advantage.”

Bob’s Speed Shop Sportsman

Brannon Fowler leads the most competitive season of Sportsman racing in recent memory as Fowler, James Patrick, Chad Robinson, Randy Thompson and Lee Reynolds have each won races in 2012. While several drivers have won, it’s Fowler who has been the most consistent, leading the championship by 70 points over Patrick.

Reynolds has the most momentum entering this weekend, as “Red Dog” is coming off his first victory of the season. The victory was the closest finish of the season, per any division, and the driver of the No. 32 is hoping for a repeat performance on Saturday.
