Despite a rain delay of an hour and a half, Dixie Speedway in Woodstock, GA, completed their entire show with only seconds to spare before the midnight curfew went into effect Saturday night.
At the end of the night, Dale Thurman took his second win of the 2012 season, holding off Preston Graves at the finish of the Super Late Model feature. The battle for third was held between the two number 17s of Lamar Haygood and Ricky Williams, with both at times being side by side before Haygood took the spot for good and Williams settling for fourth. Donald McIntosh drove his way from eleventh to finish in the fifth spot.
Newnan’s Rucker Orr seems to have found a home in victory lane as he took his fourth win of the season in the Limited Late Model Division. Orr at first was being chased by Pete Cochran when his car suddenly slowed and exited the track while running second. At the restart, Oliver Gentry took up the chase but was never able to challenge Orr for the lead. Gentry settled for second ahead of Jake Herrell, Michael Brewer, and Mark Bunch who rounded out the top five.
The Crate Late Model Feature started off with a bang as the cars of Henry Ward, Craig Reece and Cole Davis tangled on lap two, sending Ward barrell rolling down the backstretch. Ward exited his racer with no injuries but his night was obviously over. With the restart, Grayson York made his first visit to the Speedway count as he went on to win the feature. It was not an easy win, as York held off Alan Green who stayed on his rearend the rest of the way only to have to settle for second. Justin Wakefield made his way home in third followed by Phil Coltrane. Craig Reece recovered from the earlier incident and made his way back to finish fifth.
Kenny Taylor took the lead in the Super Bomber feature and never looked back as he went on for his first win of the season. Timmy Millwood followed in second with Andy Morris trailing in third. Ted Minnix and Justin Shipley completed the top five.
The Economy Bomber feature would see Rob Johnson take a commanding lead all the way to the checkers with only lapped traffic to challenge him. Following behind for the top five were Dan Meadows, Ricky Lathem, Eric Hamby, and Cody Richards.
Travis Smith took the win in the Pony Stock Championship feature staying ahead of Jeremy Baines, JJ Garrett, John Land, and Jeremy Ray thru several spinning cars in turn four racing for the checkered flag.
The team of Edwin Scott and Wes Chavez took the victory in the Cruiser feature.
Dixie Speedway will hold its Independence Day celebration on Saturday night, June 30, with a full racing program plus a fireworks show. For more info, visit DixieSpeedway.com.
