Anthony Anders seems to have his problems solved at Greenville-Pickens Speedway in Greenville, SC. The veteran led every lap in the 40-lap Late-Model Stock main event to capture his second straight win.
Anders set his sights high this season, working toward National, State and track titles. He has run well enough to lead in National and South Carolina points standings, but he had problems early and is behind in his quest to get his name on the famous wall of champions at GPS.
“While we were trying to figure out why we couldn’t get our car to handle, not knowing it was in the springs, Toby (Porter) was racking up four straight victories,” Anders said. “Now that we have our car handling well, we are making strides, but it’s hard to catch up when the folks you are running against are right with you.”
Toby Porter was the second-place finisher, and Marty Ward took third. Randy Porter, the defending track champion, ran fourth and Ralph Carnes finished fifth.
Jutin Sorrow, Bob Root, Darrell Durhan, Jr., Tasha Kummer and Sam Staggs completed the top ten.
The results of the Late-Model Stock race were unofficial pending post-race inspection.
In the Truck race, Jamie Altop took five laps to pass Tim Lollis for the lead, then he pulled away to a comfortable lead to take the checkered flag. Lollis was second, with Ryan Walker third and Michael Altop was fourth.
Mike Mote took the win in the Renegades race, just ahead of his son, Michael Mote, and in victory lane said he really thought the boy had cut him just a little slack. Mike Mote was injured recently when a water heater fell on his hand and severed his little finger.
On the final lap, Michael was all the way up beside his father, and both cars were somewhat sideways coming out of the last turn, but Mike held on for the win.
Tim Crowe was third, Chuckie Greer was forth, and Daryl Culbertson took fifth.
Brad Burns took the win in the Renegade main, with Jeremy Drummond second and Kyle Ballew third. Daniel Jameson and Travis Cox were fourth and fifth respectively.
David Rader held on to take the victory in the Street Stock race as Mark Gibson tried desperately to take the top spot. Gibson was diving into the turns trying to catch Rader, but would slide up the track and Rader moved on out. Dylan Crowe finished third and Freddy Hale, Jr., was fourth.
In the Four Cylinders race, Buck Simmons held on for the win as the firs four cars battled for the entire race. Tommy Davis, Jr., was second. Ray Mullinax took third, and Danny Heir was fourth. Austin Heil finished fifth.
