With the sudden drop in temperatures Saturday night, came a burst of excitement unlike any seen in these parts at Hartwell Speedway in Hartwell, GA, and while the moon was not quite full, the “full moon madness” was in full bloom.
Even though all seven divisions had there on form of over the top excitement, it was the FASTRAK Late Models who had the spotlight shinning on them as they competed in the $1,000 All Star Challenge. Several drivers such as Chris Furgerson, Ty Lowe, and Hot Rod LaMance drove in from out of town to try their hand at the 3/8 mile clay oval, but it was local favorite Frankie Beard who took home the victory.
Ty Lowe would qualify on the pole, with Beard sitting on the outside pole. At the drop of the green, Beard and Lowe would lead the field of twelve into turn one. Lowe, would drop deep to the inside while Beard drifted to the high side. Lowe appeared to have the upper hand on Beard, Beard would grab another gear and shoot ahead of Lowe.
Chris Furgerson, who started in the third row, quickly began making his way through the field, and before long was knocking on Beards back door. As the laps quickly began to wind down, Furgerson would reel in of Beard and come close to passing him in the turns.
Ferguson’s charge was slowed by a sudden mechanical failure, causing his right front to tire to carry a good two feet off the ground as he made his way through the turns and down the straightaways.
Beard would take full advantage of the situation. He quickly separated himself from Furgerson and powered away to the victory. Despite the mechanical difficulties, Furgerson would manage to hold on to second, leaving Ty Lowe with a third place finish. Danny Sanders and Nathan Bray rounded out the top five.
In other action, Bubba Russell powered his way to another Limited Late Mode victory, outdistancing Brandon “Cornbread” Haley to score the win. Brant Carey finished third, with Stephen Segars in fourth, and Shane Yarbrough in fifth.
In Modified Street action, Tyler Brown came home with the feature win. Chad Hoopaugh finished second, with Daniel Snow in third, Rusty Jordan in fourth, and Mark Parham in fifth.
Joseph Teasley picked up the win in the Stock V8 feature. Otis Fleeman, John Teasley, Cody Fleeman and Keith Ross rounded out the top five.
Chris Wilson scored the victory in the Stock Four Cylinder feature. Ryan Boles ran second, with Jeffery Lord third, Cody Byrum in fourth, and Todd Alewine in fifth.
In the Young Guns feature, Austin Smith scored the win, with Adam Partain in second, Mitchell Leford in third, Drew Collins in fourth, and Jason Calhoun in fifth.
Morris Lester beat the field to pick up the Up Front victory. Steven Powell ran second, with Joel Powell, Sr. in third, James Goodwin in fourth, and Paul Beasley in fifth.
