Tony Knowles Takes SLM Victory In Rome Opener

Tony Knowles of Tyrone, GA took the lead on lap one of the Super Late Model Feature and held off several challenges from cousin Jake Knowles to take the win Sunday Night at Rome International Speedway in Rome, GA.

Jake held on to the second spot but had his hands full holding back Ocala, FL’s Ivedent Lloyd. Loyd had started the race in the eleventh spot but ran out of laps and had to settle for second followed by Luther Jenkins and Jody Knowles.

Don Jenkins of Kingston, GA broke into the winners circle in the Limited Late Model feature when he took the point from Aaron Wilson. Jake Herrell finished in second, closely followed by Kenny Collins. Matt Dooley and Chris Fennell made their way from starting mid-pack to finish in the top five.

The Crate Late Model feature would see a well fought battle for the win as Jeff Smith took the win over Mark Page. Smith was forced to start close to the rear of the feature after issues in his heat race. Page would cross the line in second followed by Craig Reece. Colby Kilgore, home on leave from the Military, followed in fourth with 16 year old Austin Smith rounding out the top five.

Roy Patterson got the win in the Super Bomber feature. Crossing the line behind the longtime driver was Daniel Brewer, Willie Winsome, Zack Shelton and Bobby Hill.

Rome, GA’s Eric Hamby took the feature win in the Economy Bomber feature holding off Justin Shipley, Shane Smith, Cody Richards, and Tony Owenby.

Jeremy Baines passed Natasha Stokes for the lead in the Pony Stock class and went on to take the win. Stokes held on to second holding off Erik Hogsed, followed by Jeremy Millsaps and Shannon Etheridge.

Chris Neese steered his way through all the spills & thrills to take the win in the Cruiser feature.
