It had been a few weeks since Toby Porter went to victory lane in the Late-Model Stock division at Greenville-Pickens Speedway in Greenville, SC, but Saturday night he made winning look easy.
Porter was the top qualifier and sat on the pole to start the main event, but Justin Sorrow, who had started outside of the front row, took the lead on the first lap.
It took Porter exactly four laps to pass Sorrow, and from there on it was smooth sailing as he led the pack and stretched his lead. Marty Ward, who had his own winning streak stopped, finished second, and Anthony Anders was third. Sorrow was fourth, and Ralph Carnes finished fifth.
“We made a lot of changes to the car since the last race, and it was a very good car tonight,” Porter said in victory lane. “I also want to thank everyone who works on this car. If it weren’t for them, I wouldn’t be able to race.”
It may have been the extra week between races, but whatever it was, Porter had little trouble dominating the race.
Zach Pressley was in an unusual position in the Charger main event, instead of driving his signature orange car with checkered flags down the side, he drove a silver car right into victory lane.
“We had planned on painting it orange, white and black, but we just might leave it silver, now,” he said.
Michael Mote was second, with Mike Mote third, Daryl Culbertson fourth and Andy Norris fifth.
Jeremy Drummond let the rest of the field fight it out as he set sail in the front of the Renegade division to take the checkered flag. Brad Burns was second, with Dale Stancil, Andrew Cordell and Kyle Ballew rounding out the top five.
Tommy Davis, Jr. led a full filed of four cylinder cars to victory lane, as Austin Heil finished second. Buck Simmons was third, with Ray Mullinax and David Rader finishing fourth and fifth, respectively.
For much of the Truck main event, the real battle was between Ryan Walker and Chris Chastain, for third place, as Randy Ballew and Tim Lollis were running first and second. That was the way the race went until lap 18, when Ballew got loose coming out of the second turn and spun. Lollis was the race leader on the restart and held on for the win and Walker took second. Ballew managed to get by Chastain for third, with Michael Altop finishing fifth.
David Rader took the win in the Street Stock division, as Mark Gibson was second. Freddy Hale, Jr., was third and Furman Craft was fourth. Kirk Gibson was fifth.
