In a night where temperatures hovered near 90 degrees all night, four of Mobile International Speedway’s best divisions put on one of the most memorable shows in recent memory. The evening began with a track walk to honor our troops as fans crowded the Irvington, AL Speedway to honor our troops.

Bubba Pollard returned to victory lane in the Miller Lite Super Late Model Series 100-lapper, holding off Mike Garvey and Grant Enfinger on a late restart with just six laps to go. Donnie Wilson had restarted on the outside of row one but dropped a cylinder coming to get the green flag, allowing Pollard to get away unchallenged.

Garvey, Enfinger and Hunter Robbins would complete the top-four with Wilson limping around to finish fifth.

“We had a great car and raced clean,” Pollard said. “We had to make some adjustments from last night’s race [at Pensacola]. We enjoy coming here and it’s a great track with great fans.”

The starting front row of Grant Enfinger and Chris Davidson fought side-by-side for the first two laps, before Enfinger closed the door coming out of turn 1.  Clay Alexander started from third but quickly marched through the field to take the lead at the start of lap 3.

Stephen Nasse assumed the lead on lap 4, completing a rotation of three different leaders in four laps, and held it until lap 63 when the caution came out just as Bubba Pollard was set to complete a pass on the exit of turn 4.

The yellow flashed due to Alexander, Robbins, Jeremy Pate, Anthony Sergi and Jerry Artuso coming together out of turn 3. All five drivers were running nose-to-tail in traffic and made contact when Alexander was forced to brake in front of the field. Cars spiraled into the grass and went spinning to avoid contact.

Sergi caught the most damage and recorded a DNF, while the others spent several laps in the pits to make repairs. Fortunately for those involved, only green flag laps count in the Miller Lite 100, with drivers receiving no penalty as long as they are back on the track when the race resumes.

Alexander (14th), Artuso (9th), Pate (8th), and Robbins all returned to the track recorded top-15 finished, not an easy task given the nature of short track late model racing.

Pollard finally took the lead on the lap 64 restart and would spend the next 31 laps building a straightaway lead over a hard-charging Donnie Wilson in the No. 2W car.

Alabama Pipe and Supply Modifieds

The Alabama Pipe and Supply Modifieds opened the show and developed into a battle royal on Saturday night, concluding with Donald Crocker’s second win of the season.

On the first lap as Mike “Mad Dog” Maddox and David Beale tangled on the backstretch on the first lap. Neither car would continue.

Once the race was restarted, Jeremy Dickens jumped in front of Donald Crocker. The lead wouldn’t last long as Crocker shoved Dickens up the groove and out of the way midway through turns 1 and 2. Dickens opened the door for Donnie Hamrac to look under Dickens before he closed it going down the backstretch.

Hamrac had the faster car but Dickens’ aggressive defensive line prevented the position changing hands. As a result, Crocker jumped out to a half-a-speedway lead.

Dickens would suffer a mechanical failure on lap 8, allowing Hamrac to finally take second.

With the victory, Crocker extended his points lead to 35 over Hamrac.

“I can’t thank my family enough,” Crocker said. “We have fun every time we get to bring this car to Mobile; it’s a great time.”

Island Motor II Bombers

Jayme Corry won the first Island Motor II bombers feature in over a month, in dramatic fashion, driving through a multi-car accident on the last lap with Rusty Powell Sr. just seconds behind him. The accident occurred at the back of the pack in turn 3 forcing the leaders to race back to the caution and the checkered flag.

Corry navigated through traffic and claimed his fourth victory of the season and got within 13 points of the championship lead.

What a tough race,” Corry said. “Rusty could have roughed me up there, going through that wreck, so I want to thank him for racing me clean.”

The race may have been decided on lap seven when, under caution, Day Racing teammates Brandon Tipton and Jerry Goff Jr. collided while running first and second. It first appeared as if Tipton slammed into Goff, but on further review the latter dropped an axle eliminating both he and his teammate.

This gave the lead to Corry who held off William Leytham on two restarts to win his fifth bomber feature, and fourth of the season, at Mobile International Speedway.

Bob’s Speed Shop Sportsman

The Bob’s Speed Shop Sportsman took center stage on Saturday night, with Chad Robinson winning his fifth straight feature dating back to Apr. 7. Robinson led from lap five to the finish and moves to within 97 points of the championship lead (behind Brannon Fowler and James Patrick, who finished fifth and 14th respectively).

“We’ve had a good car all year,” Robinson said. “There’s a bit of a flutter in the engine and we’ve got to fix that but it’s always good to be in victory lane.
