R.A. Brown Scores Late Model Victory At Anderson

Anderson Motor Speedway in Williamston, SC, saw its fourth different Late Model winner of the 2012 season Friday night, as R.A. Brown topped the field for the victory on the lightning fast 3/8 mile raceway.

Randy Porter was the fastest qualifier with a time of 15.326 seconds. Porter rolled a two on the dice and the invert to start the race put Brown on the pole and left Porter on the front row with him. Brown and Porter made contact in turn one of the first lap, which allowed Brown to grab the lead position and sent Porter to fifth. On lap two, Ralph Carnes battled past Brown to take over the lead position.

While Porter battled with Kenneth Headen and Justin Southerlin, Carnes and Brown pulled out to a large advantage. Carnes held the lead until lap thirty one, when Brown drove past him to regain the lead for the final time. Once out front, Brown pulled away from Carnes to take the victory. Porter came from nearly four seconds down to close to within a half second of Brown and finish on the rear of Carnes in the caution free race.

The victory was the first of the season for Brown as he became the fourth different Late Model winner thus far this season. Ralph Carnes finished second. Randy Porter finished third. Kenneth Headen finished fourth. Austin Leitner finished fifth. 15.326 sec

In other action, Lance Jones scored the victory in the B-M Modified race. Mark Burdette and Alan Mitchell battled for the first two laps of the race, and at the end of the second lap, the two made contact, sending Mitchell to the middle of the field.  That allowed Austin Northcutt to take over the lead position. Northcutt held the lead until lap nine when he jumped the restart and was sent to the rear of the field.

On lap 10, Jones grabbed the lead, which he held over the final laps, as he went on to take the checkered flag and pick up his first victory of the season. The win made Jones became the fifth different winner thus far this season in the B-M Modified division. Alan Mitchell finished second. Mark Burdette finished third. Austin Northcutt finished fourth. Robert Marshall finished fifth.

Ben Kay came away with the win in the B Mini Stock race. Kay led the first lap of the race before he relinquished the top spot to David Darnell. Darnell led until lap eight, when he was passed by Chad Campbell. Campbell’s time at the front was short lived, as Darnell regained the lead on lap 10. Darnell led until lap 12, when Kay took the lead following a restart. Kay held the lead until lap fifteen when Darnell regained the top spot for the final time. Darnell led the final five laps of the race and received the checkered flag. Kay held off a last lap charge from Campbell to finish second. Following the race Darnell failed post race inspection and Kay was declared the official victor. Chad Campbell finished second. Dylan Hall finished third. Brian Howard finished fourth. Jeff Turner finished fifth.

Dylan Hall claimed the victory in the C Mini Stock race. Hall led every lap of the race on his way to his fifth victory of the season. Ryan Howard finished second. Dion Ciccarelli finished third. Brandon Segars finished fourth. Jim Skinner finished fifth.

Barry Tollison Jr. won in the Super Renegade division. Tollison Jr. led every lap of the race on his way to the victory. Barry Tollison Sr. finished second. Whitey Suttles finished third.

Ricky Burnett came away with the victory in the Renegade feature. Brian Davis led every lap of the caution free race and received the checkered flag and it appeared that he had ended the five race win streak held by Burnett. Burnett crossed the finish line in the second position. Following the race Davis failed post race inspection and Burnett was declared the official winner as he took his sixth victory in a row. Blake Gregory finished second. Steve Guthrie finished third. Jack Robertson finished fourth. Billy Brown finished fifth.

Tommy Davis was first under the checkered flag in the Front Wheel Drive feature. Davis led the first lap of the race but Tim Ervin led the second lap of the race. On lap three Davis regained the top spot which he held the remainder of the race. The victory was the fourth of the season for Davis. Tim Ervin finished second. Chris Harvell finished third. Eric Headen finished fourth. CJ Huitt finished fifth.

Spenser Boyd claimed the win in the Legends race. Boyd led the first 10 laps of the race before he jumped a restart and was sent to the rear of the field. Andrew Brown took the lead and held the top spot until lap fifteen, when a caution came out. By this time Boyd has moved from the rear to the second position. On the restart, Boyd grabbed the lead and held it until lap eighteen when a caution came out for a car that had flipped in turn two. Due to the amount of time used for the Legends race the race was called on lap eighteen with Boyd declared the winner. The victory was his first of the season. Andrew Brown finished second. Jared Irvan finished third. Cody Ware finished fourth. Trey Edson finished fifth.
