Marty Ward Gets Third Straight At Greenville-Pickens

Wins come in strings at Greenville-Pickens Speedway in Greenville, SC, and six-time champion Marty Ward ran his string to three straight Saturday night in the Late-Model Stock main event.

His victory didn’t give him a big boost in the points race, though, because Toby Porter, who ran second, won the first four races of the season and maintains the points lead.

“I promised my wife I wouldn’t get in a points race,” Ward said in victory lane. “What I am going to do is just keep coming to race each week, and we will see how things stand with points when only ten races remain in the season.”

Ward’s win wasn’t nearly as easy as it seemed. He had the lead at the start of the 40-lap main, but on lap six Jeremy Burns managed to get by Ward. Burns kept the point until five laps remained, when Ward went to the inside and went back to first place. Porter, who had run down the two leaders, passed Burns for second place on the next lap.

Anthony Anders was fourth, and Ralph Carnes took fifth. Will Burns, Bob Root, Joey Collins, Gene Welborn and Tasha Kummer rounded out the top ten.

Michael Mote broke into the Chargers winner’s circle, with Andy Norris running second and James Johnson was third. Division points leader Mike Mote was fourth and Zach Pressley was fifth.

Brandon Fox didn’t lead much, maybe three hundred feet, but it was the part that paid as he passed Jeremy Drummond coming out of the fourth turn of the last lap in the Renegades main event. Drummond had led the entire race up to then. Dale Stancil was third, with Kyle Ballew fourth and Brad Burns fifth.

Ray Mullinax held off Tommy Davis, Jr.; to win the Four Cylinder main event, as David Rader was third. Buck Simmons was fourth and David Heil was fifth.

Ryan Walker collected his first victory in the Truck division, after moving up from Renegades, and Tim Lollis was second. Chris Chastain took third with Richard Laino fourth and Randy Ballew fifth.

David Rader picked up the win in the Street Stock main event, with Mark Gibson in second. J.D. Griffith was third, as Cody Hill and Freddy Hale, Jr., finished fourth and fifth respectively.
