3:20 p.m. — Kahne: “I’ve always enjoyed racing at Rockingham. I’ve thought about it ever since and how bad I wanted to win here. The fans, we had a great crowd here today. I hope we put on a good show for them.”
“It was patience. The thing about this place is you can take your time early and pick them off one at a time and save your tires. We kept tightening the truck up and the final run, we got it really good.”
3:17 p.m. — Crafton on his third place effort: “I’m happy with it and at the same time disgusted with it. I fired too hard on the last run and that’s when Kasey ran us down. We know what we did wrong, and we’ll remember that when we come back here.
“And please let us come back here.”
Buescher: “We just stayed patient. Tire wear is so key, and we slowly picked them off. We were there at the end, I could smell it, but Kasey was pulling away.”
Piquet: “Trying to recover some positions on pit road and push the limit. It happens. It’s my first time speeding on pit road. It’s a learning experience. Next time, I’ll try to be more careful.”
“The truck was much better than I expected.”
3:15 p.m. — Kahne made good on his unfinished business. He finished second in his only NASCAR Sprint Cup start here.
3:12 p.m. — Piquet made it back to seventh.
CHECKERED FLAG — Kahne wins the first Camping World Truck Series race at the Rock. He’s followed by Buescher, Crafton, Sauter and Peters.
Lap 197 — Kahne is on cruise control, looking for the checkered flag.
Lap 195 — Piquet is driving angry and effectively. He continues to slice through the field and is up to 8th.
Lap 194 — Kahne has inched his lead out to about a second.
Lap 190 — Piquet is back to 10th, but he’s running out of time. 10 laps to go.
Lap 186 — The top five have broken away from the rest of the field, and it’s a mess behind them. Burton gets way out of shape off turn 4 but holds it together.
Lap 185 — Kahne is feeling some pressure from Buescher. No more saving tires.
Lap 183 — Sauter jumps to the outside and jumps to fourth.
Lap 81 — On the bottom of the track, Kahne holds his lead. Sauter holds second and Crafton third.
RESTART Lap 181 — 20 laps to go — Top 10: Kahne – Buescher – Peters – Crafton – Dillon – Sauter – Coulter – Kligerman – Burton – Lofton. Piquet is 12th.
BLACK FLAG Lap 176 — Piquet was too fast on pit road.
Lap 176 — The leaders pit for tires. A few don’t even bother with fuel. Kahne leads Piquet and Buescher off pit road.
Lap 175 — Everyone has two sets of tires left. They’ll all get one of them right now.
CAUTION Lap 174 — Debris on the backstretch.
Lap 170 — With 30 laps to go, Piquet is the fastest truck on the race track. But he’s 5 seconds behind Kahne.
Lap 166 — Remember Piquet? He dominated the first half of this race, and he’s coming back to the front. He moves past Crafton to take second.
Lap 165 — Reutimann is in the wall in turn 2. He is crazy loose.
Lap 161 — Hearing that Crafton has backed off his pace a bit. He’s good to go on fuel and is trying to save his tires. Kahne leads by 3 seconds.
Lap 158 — Kahne must have been saving his best for last. He has opened up a 1.8-second lead.
Lap 155 — Kahne gets a big run off turn 2 and works past Crafton for the lead as they head into turn 3.
Lap 154 — Kahne is within a truck length. He goes to the high line in turn 1.
Lap 152 — Kahne is closing in on the lead. Crafton can see him in his mirror.
Lap 146 — So Piquet is back to fourth, Dillon in fifth and Buescher to sixth. Now Buscher takes fifth from Dillon in turn 3.
Lap 144 — Dillon slides under Piquet, who gets past Buescher. Now Piquet fights back in turn 4 and takes fourth.
Lap 140 — Kahne goes to second past Peters.
Lap 140 — Buescher won’t let the issue die. He grabs the spot back from Piquet.
Lap 134 — But Piquet fights back. He disposes of Buescher and moves back to fifth. He’ll go to work on Dillon for fourth.
Lap 133 — Piquet gets dropkicked back to sixth. Buescher moves to fifth.
Lap 132 — Peters holds Kahne off. Kahne settles for third for now.
Lap 131 — Crafton scampers away with the lead on the inside. Kahne is going to try to follow him.
RESTART Lap 130 — Top 10: Peters – Crafton – Kahne – Piquet – Dillon – Buescher – Kligerman – Coulter – Burton – Lofton.
Lap 128 — This caution is going a few extra laps. Officials saw some more debris on the track.
Lap 126 — Sauter gives up a top five spot to pit again for fuel. He’ll try to go the distance if this race stays green.
Lap 124 — Piquet emerges in fifth. Hornaday will get the free pass. That puts 12 trucks on the lead lap.
Lap 123 — The leaders pit for tires and fuel. Piquet has a slow pit stop as Peters wins the race off pit road.
Lap 121 — Silas takes his truck to the garage with a lot of front-end damage.
CAUTION Lap 120 — Reutimann spins and collects Silas off turn 4.
Lap 115 — Piquet is really impressive today. He’s out of control and he’s pulling away from Crafton. He has a 1-second lead.
Lap 111 — These guys are just sliding around. There is no grip out there.
Lap 110 — But Piquet won’t go away. He works back to the inside of Crafton and takes the lead back.
Lap 109 — Crafton goes to the outside and takes advantage of a loose Piquet. Crafton to the lead off turn 2.
Lap 103 — Piquet holds his advantage over Crafton. The lead is about a half second.
Lap 100 — Halfway — Top 10: Piquet – Crafton – Peters – Sauter – Kahne – Buescher – Dillon – Kligerman – Coulter – Lofton
Lap 98 — Lap traffic has bogged Piquet down a bit. Crafton is there.
Lap 95 — Kahne may have used up his tires. Peters got by him for third, and he just lost fourth to Sauter.
Lap 90 — Kligerman is also fading a bit. He’s slid back to 8th.
Lap 85 — John King returns to the track. He’s 32nd, 81 laps down.
Lap 83 — Piquet pounces on Crafton down the backstretch. Give him the lead off turn 4.
Lap 81 — Harraka may have started on the outside pole, but he didn’t stay there for long. He’s struggling today, now 2 laps down in 27th.
Lap 79 — Crafton and Piquet are starting to walk away from Kahne and the others. The lead is 0.3 seconds.
Lap 77 — Bodine has parked his truck behind the pit wall.
Lap 76 — Piquet and Crafton are hooking the bottom of the track, while Kahne is working the high line. Peters and Sauter are going to join this battle soon.
Lap 75 — Add Kahne to the battle for the lead. Crafton holds serve. This is getting good.
Lap 72 — Piquet wants the lead back from Crafton. The battle is on in turn 1.
Lap 69 — Bodine slams off the wall in turn 2, flattening the right side of his truck. He heads to pit road.
Lap 68 — Kahne jumps to the outside of Peters in turn 2 and goes to third.

Lap 62 — Piquet holds the lead off pit road.
Lap 61 — The leaders pit for tires and fuel. Everyone takes four. Piquet gets a small adjustment to offset a loose condition.
Lap 60 — Looks like Jeb Burton will get the free pass. Piquet had just put him a lap down.
CAUTION Lap 59 — Debris in turn 1.
Lap 57 — Crews are getting their tires ready. Look for green flag pit stops soon.
Lap 55 — Jeb Burton is 11th, the last truck on the lead lap. Piquet leads by 12.4 seconds.
Lap 50 — There are 12 trucks on the lead lap. Your top 10: Piquet – Crafton – Kligerman – Peters – Buescher – Sauter – Kahne – Dillon – Lofton – Coulter
Lap 45 — Piquet’s lead is up to 9.5 seconds. Only 15 trucks are on the lead lap.
Lap 42 — Leffler is officially done for the day. He can’t quite describe the disappointment.
“We’re 10 laps in and that’s it,” he said. “We’re going home early.”
Lap 39 — Piquet continues to set a blistering pace. Only 17 trucks are still on the lead lap. John Wes Townley is the latest to go a lap down.
Lap 36 — Kahne is up to ninth while Bodine has sunk to tenth.
Lap 33 — Ron Hornaday is using every inch of the race track to make up time. He’s up to 12th after starting 22nd.
Lap 30 — Piquet’s truck is on a rail. He has a 5.2-second lead.
Lap 27 — Kasey Kahne started 36th. He’s now 11th and looking for more.
Lap 25 — Jeb Burton and Paulie Harraka get together off turn 4, but both continue without trouble.
Lap 22 — Leffler’s misfortune means Crafton is now second. Move Parker Kligerman to third, with Peters and Todd Bodine rounding out the top five.
Lap 19 — Leffler slows and heads to pit road. He was running second. A belt has broken on the engine.
Lap 17 — A few start-and-parkers, including Grant Enfinger, head to the garage.
Lap 13 — Timothy Peters got off to a sluggish start, but he’s finding his legs. He’s back to sixth past Ty Dillon.
Lap 12 — Matt Crafton is up to third.
RESTART Lap 9 — Piquet jumps to the lead again while Jason Leffler holds second.
CAUTION Lap 4 — John King spins off turn 2 and slams into the inside wall. The points leader has a lot of damage.
1:18 p.m. — Green flag. Nelson Piquet goes to the lead.
1 p.m. — It’s time to go racing. I’m heading to the roof, so my updates on here will be limited. Follow me on Twitter for more updates.
12:50 p.m. — Looks like we’ll have some paratroopers arriving here shortly.
12:40 p.m. — After hours of cloud cover, the sun has broken through here at Rockingham. It’s a beautiful day, still a bit breezy, with temperatures rising into the upper 70s.
12:30 p.m. — Looking at the grandstands, it doesn’t appear that this race will sell out. Still, there’s a great crowd on hand today.
12:25 p.m. — Pre-race ceremonies have begun.
12:22 p.m. — The biggest line for autographs today: the one for Kasey Kahne. Kahne and fellow Sprint Cup driver David Reutimann will have to start the race from the tail of the field because they did not qualify yesterday.
12:15 p.m. — There is no consensus in the media center as to the favorite for today’s race. But Peters, Leffler, Bodine and Kligerman seem to be the top choices.
12:10 p.m. — Awkward. Just got a glimpse of the trophy for today’s truck race. On top of it is a gold car. Do they not make gold trucks?
Noon — Fans are making their way to the grandstands. We’re an hour away from opening ceremonies.
11:50 a.m. — Back from my lunch break. This place is getting crowded.
11:20 a.m. — The wind and clouds persist here at the speedway, but no rain is on the radar.
11:10 a.m. — We’re getting ready for the autograph session on the frontstretch. I’ll be back in a bit.
11 a.m. — Also, track owner Andy Hillenburg received a standing ovation at the drivers meeting, which was open to the fans. They behaved well.
10:45 a.m. — Some tidbits from the drivers meeting:
– Driver intros will be at 12:25 a.m., followed by a field photo.
– The invocation is at 1:03 p.m. Little Texas will sing the National Anthem.
– Teams will get an extra set of tires at the halfway point. That will give them four sets total.
– Pit road speed is 35 mph. Pace truck speed is 45 mph.
