John Wes Townley, driver in the NASCAR Camping World Truck series, was placed on probation by NASCAR, it was announced Thursday.
The probation stems back to a violation of Section 12-1 of the NASCAR Rule Book (actions detrimental to stock car racing) on Feb. 7.
The probation runs to Dec. 31, 2012.

According to a report in the Athens Banner Herald, Townley, of Watkinsville, GA, was arrested on DUI charges after police in Oconee County, Georgia responded to a call of a “suspicious man knocking on the back door of a home.” According to the report, the man was said to be “disoriented and seemingly intoxicated.”
The officers took Townley to jail after locating his car, a 2012 BMW, which had traveled off the roadway and into a telephone pole, according to the newspaper report.
Townley was suspended by RAB Racing following the arrest. Townely will be evaluated by a certified substance abuse professional at NASCAR’s discretion. He will also be subject to random alcohol and drug testing.
