Week 18 of the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series season saw West Region point leader Jim McDuffie of Meridian, MS continue his winning ways, as he picked up his eighth victory of the season and the $1,000 top prize on Saturday night in the I-20 Challenge Race at Jackson Motor Speedway in Jackson, MS driving the H.E. Mosley, Inc. Trak-Star.
The 2008 NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series West Region Champion is now just eight points away from scoring a “perfect” point total of 800. McDuffie will now be trying to net on one 48-point third-place finish and six 49-point second-place finishes in the remaining 11 weeks of NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series 2011 competition.
Landon Frith of Terry, MS moved up to the second spot with his fourth straight race of perfect attendance on Saturday night at Jackson Motor Speedway. Although he had a 41-point finish outside the top ten to reach the 14-week mark of competition, he picked up 25 Regional Bonus Points. Frith now has 748 points.
Justin McRee of Tuscaloosa, AL did not compete in Week 18 NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series West Region competition, but remains in the third spot with 746 points. McRee can still earn another 25 Regional Bonus Points before he reached the maximum number allowed of 100.
Duke Palasini of Leland, MS is still on the move in the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series West Region standings, as he used a 41-point finish on Saturday night at Jackson Motor Speedway to move up to the fourth spot with 724 points. Palasini still has one more week to earn full points before he reaches the 14-week mark and begins to net points in his Regional point total.
The fifth through tenth-place drivers in the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series West Region standings have all reached the 14-week mark and are trying to net points on their Regional point totals. They all can still earn another 25 Regional Bonus Points before reaching the maximum of 100.
Larry Murphy of Meridian, MS is fifth in the West Region standings with 706 points followed by Randy Boyd of Marion, MS in sixth with 705 points, and Brent Barrett of Cleveland, MS with 680 points in the seventh spot. Chandler Petty of Austin, AR and Bobby Jordan of McCarley, MS are tied for the eighth spot with 679 points apiece, and Lamar Furr of Hollandale, MS rounds out the Top 10 of the West Region standings with 668 points.
In other NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series West Region Week 18 action, Jeremy Shaw of Millport, AL took his fourth win of the season on Saturday night at Columbus Speedway in Columbus, MS driving the Summit Resource Development Trak-Star. There were also two first-time 2011 winners in Week 18 competition.
Ronnie Cooper of Malden, MO grabbed his first win of the season on Friday night in his first appearance of the season at Malden Speedway in Malden, MO in the Cooper Racing Special. A. C. Parker Jr. of Greenville, MS drove the Williams Automotive Trak-Star to his first win of the season on Saturday night at Drew County Speedway in Monticello, AR.
The NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series Old Man’s Garage (OMG) East Region point leader Adam Gauldin of Talladega, AL used a second-place finish on Saturday night at Talladega, AL to stay on top of the points list driving the Adam Gauldin Racing GRT. Gauldin leads Jimmy Elkins Jr. of Talladega, AL by just six points. Gauldin has 778 points and Elkins has 772 points.
Kevin Maher of McDavid, FL used his fourth straight race of perfect attendance on Saturday night at Flomaton Speedway in Flomaton, AL to earn 25 Regional Bonus Points and move up to the third spot in the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series Old Man’s Garage (OMG) East Region standings with 726 points.
The top eight drivers have reached the 14-week mark in the 2011 season, and the top four drivers have earned their allowance of 100 Regional Bonus Points. The fifth through ninth place drivers can still earn 25 more Regional Bonus Points.
Doug Ludwig of Grantville, GA is fourth in the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series Old Man’s Garage (OMG) point standings with 721 points followed by Mike Combs of Odenville, AL in fifth with 715 points, and Brian Ponder of Talladega, AL in sixth with 706 points.
Chris Griffin of Flomaton, AL took his first NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series Old Man’s Garage (OMG) East Region win of the season on Saturday night at Flomaton Speedway driving the Escambia County Bank Special. Griffin is seventh in the NeSmith Chevrolet WRS OMG East Region standings with 684 points.
Maddox Mullinax of Birmingham, AL is eighth in the NeSmith Chevrolet WRS OMG East Region standings with 657 points, and Russ Ogletree of Phenix City, AL is ninth with 639 points. Ogletree can still earn full points for another two weeks of OMG East Region competition.
Ken Pate of Pell City, AL and Bret Holmes of Eastaboga, AL are tied for the tenth spot in the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series Old Man’s Garage (OMG) East Region standings with 588 points apiece. Pate and Holmes can still earn full points for one more week, and both drivers can still earn another 50 Regional Bonus Points before reaching their allotment of 100.
Tod Darda of La Grange, GA is 14th in the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series Old Man’s Garage (OMG) East Region standings, but he will be a driver on the move in climbing up the points list, as he can still earn full points for another four weeks of OMG East Region competition. Darda took his sixth win of the season on Saturday night New Senoia Raceway in Senoia, GA driving the PW Performance GRT.
Another driver to watch in the coming weeks of NeSmith Chevrolet WRS OMG East Region competition is the defending champion Chase Edge of Lafayette, AL. Edge took his fifth win of the season on Friday night at Penton Raceway in Penton, AL driving the Edge’s Gas Company Special. Edge is 18th in the OMG East Region standings with 502 points, and he can earn full points for another six weeks.
In other NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series Old Man’s Garage (OMG) East Region Week 18 competition, Ryan King of Anniston, AL took his first win of the season on Saturday night at Talladega Short Track driving the David King Automotive Special. King, who is 13th in the standings with 582 points, is another driver looking to climb into the OMG East Region Top 10 standings, as he can earn full points for two more weeks.
The 2011 NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series Chassis Manufacturers Challenge point leader GRT Race Cars of Greenbrier, AR picked up one win in Week 18 competition from Darda to bring the three-time NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series Chassis Manufacturers Challenge Champion’s season point total to 48.
The defending and two-time NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series Chassis Manufacturers Challenge Champion Trak-Star Race Cars built by Boland Performance of Cuba, AL scored three Week 18 wins from McDuffie, Shaw and Parker to close to within five points of the point leader. Trak-Star Race Cars now has 43 points in the second spot.
Rocket Chassis of Shinnston, WV remains in the third spot of the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series Chassis Manufacturers Challenge standings with 13 points. Warrior Race Cars built by Goddard Performance of Knoxville, TN is fourth in the standings with one win.
Also participating in the 2011 NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series Chassis Manufacturers Challenge and still looking for their first win of the season are TNT Race Cars of Piney Flats, TN and Stinger Race Cars built by J.T. Kerr Racing Equipment of Rockford, TN.
