Gibson Pilots Familiar Car To Anderson Late Model Win

It was a familiar car, but a different name scoring the Late Model victory a Anderson Motor Speedway in Willisamston, SC Friday night, as Trey Gibson piloted the car usually driven by Randy Porter to the win.

Ralph Carnes led the first three laps of the race before he relinquished the top position to Gibson. Although there were several cautions during the race which allowed Carnes to line up side by side with Gibson to restart the race each time, the best Carnes could do was run side by side with Gibson for a lap before he had to drop back in behind Gibson.

Gibson led from lap three until lap fifty and put the same car in victory lane for the third late model race in a row. Carnes finished second, with Kenneth Headen, third, Justin Southerlin fourth, and Jeremy Burns fifth.

In other action, B.J. Thrasher scored the win in the B Mini Stock feature. Dylan Hall led the first four laps of the race, with Thrasher all over him each lap. On lap five Hall slipped up in the turn which allowed Thrasher to drive past him and take the top spot.

A couple of laps later Chad Campbell drove under Hall in the turn to move to the second position. Campbell failed to close on Thrasher whom led the remainder of the race and picked up his first victory of the season and his first in almost a year. Chad Campbell finished second. Dylan Hall finished third. Matt Gilbert finished fourth. Jeff Turner finished fifth.

Alan Mitchell took the victory in the B-M Modified race. Tim Stokes led the first lap of the race. On lap two, Casey Tucker and Tim Stokes made contact while battling for the lead which removed both of the drivers from the race.

On the restart, Alan Mitchell took the lead which he held the remainder of the race. On the final lap, Mark Burdette drove under Mitchell in turn two but Mitchell held him off down the back stretch and the final half of a lap to ensure himself the victory. The victory was the second of the season for Mitchell as he became the first repeat winner in the B-M Modified division thus far this season. Mark Burdette, Austin Northcutt, Jared Irvan, and Lance Jones rounded out the top five.

Dion Ciccarelli topped all comers in the C Mini Stock feature. Dylan Hall led the first five laps of the race before he relinquished the top spot to Ciccarelli. For the next nine laps Ciccarelli had his way as he got good starts after several cautions but on the final lap Ryan Howard closed on Ciccarelli but Ciccarelli held him off to take his first victory of the season. Ryan Howard finished second, with Brandon Segars third, Jim Skinner fourth, and Dylan Hall fifth.

Ricky Burnett scored the win in the Renegade feature. Jack Robertson led the first lap of the race, but found himself in a three car battle for the lead at the start of lap two.  The lead fight went three wide, and Robertson wound up with a cut down tire.

Chad Watt moved to the lead on lap two during the three wide battle with Robertson. On lap three Watt and Ricky Burnett ran side by side, but on lap four Burnett took over the lead, which he refused to be challenged for the remainder of the race. The victory was the third in a row for Burnett. Bryan Davis finished second. Chad Watt finished third. Blake Gregory finished fourth. Steve Guthrie finished fifth.

Wayne Cowart came home with the win in the Front Wheel Drive race. Cowart, Chris Harvell, and Kenneth Bearden led the race before a victor was determined on the final lap of the race. Tommy Davis joined the three to make it a four car break away from the remainder of the thirteen car field early in the race.

During the race there was a lot of beating and banging and side by side racing before Cowart put the bumper to Harvell in turn two of the final lap which got Harvell crossed up and allowed Cowart to take the lead for the final time.

Once Harvell slipped up, Cowart moved by him along with Davis and Bearden. Cowart led the final half of a lap to take his first victory of the season. Tommy Davis, Kenneth Bearden, Chris Harvell, and Ray Mullinax rounded out the top five.
