It was a beautiful night for racing and a great night for the kids at EastBay Raceway Park in Tampa, FL, as the Easter Bunny made his stop at the “Clay by the Bay” and passed out Easter baskets and lots of candy to all the children on the front straightaway with all the drivers as well.
It was a great night for John Koller, as he got an Easter surprise early, winning his first ever Late Model feature victory.
Phillip Cobb, who had scored the Limited Late Model victory earlier in the evening, was looking to make it back to back wins in the Late Model feature, but Roger Crouse, Travis Varnadore, Maverick Varnadore, and Kyle Musselman had different ideas on the matter as the race got underway. Cobb jumped out to the early lead as Crouse and Koller battled for second until caution came out working lap seven on the track when John Norris went around in turns one and two. A restart was attempted, but Musselman made contact with Hayden Campbell coming off turn two, bringing the yellow out again.
The field lined up behind Cobb for the restart. While he dropped the hammer and pulled away from the field, the action was heavy for fourth on back. Both Varnadore boys went side-by-side for the position with Peacock, Frankie Erskine, Jr., and Kyle Musselman going at it for sixth.
The caution flew again on lap 17, giving everyone renewed hope to take the win away from Cobb. This time, Crouse went around all on his own coming off turn four and would be forced to tag the rear of the field with six laps remaining.
Just when it looked like no one had anything for Cobb, John Koller took advantage of the leader off turn three, taking the lead on lap 24, and bringing home the win for his first visit ever to Victory Lane.

In other action, racing in the Street Stock feature was intense, as points leader Eric Moon battled with Donnie Reed, Buck Woodhouse, Billy Carlbert, Jr., along with birthday boy Jim Baker. Dennis Wilson started on the outside of row one, and quickly grabbed the lead, keeping his No. 42 out front for the 15 lap feature event. Reed finished second, with Moon third, Woodhouse fourth, and Jim Baker fifth.
When the Limited Late Models came out for their 15 lap feature, Phillip Cobb shot to the lead and never looked back. Ricky Land battled with points leader Shane Koperda, Terry Jones, Forrest Gough, and Tom Evonosky, Sr .
On lap three, Crouse got involved in an accident with Jones, sending Crouse to the pits. On the restart, Koperda got sideways, bringing out the caution and sending him to the rear for the restart.
Forrest Gough took advantage of the restart and moved underneath Land to take over second. However, Cobb proved to be too much for the field, easily bringing home the win. Forrest Gough finished second, with Tom Evonosky, Sr. third, Ricky Land fourth, and Shane Koperda fifth.
The Motorstats.com 4 Cylinder Bombers came out 28 cars strong for their feature. Johnnie Alexander started on the pole, but had problems early, and dropped back quickly. Last year’s track champion Troy Dittebrand started on the outside of row one. He led wire-to-wire, and picked up his first win of 2012. George Handy had a strong run to finish second, with Don R. Quinn, William Burnside, and Jimmy Williams rounding out the top five.
