Gresham Motorsports Park is gearing up for what promises to be one of the most exciting season opening events in the country Saturday night.

The Jefferson, Georgia speed plant will play host to the second annual Beau Slocumb Memorial 208 Pro Late Model event on April 7, with a possible $10,000 on the line for the winner.

The feature event will be made up of three segments, similar to what fans and racers saw in the inaugural event in 2011.  The first segment will be 100 laps, with a $2,500 payout going to the winner.  The second segment will be 75 laps, with a $3,000 paycheck on the line for the winner.  The final 33 lap segment will pay $4,500, opening the door for a big payday for a driver who could sweep all three segments.

The event, held in honor of the late Beau Slocumb, has quickly become one that drivers from all over the country want to add their names to.  In 2011, Senoia, Georgia’s Bubba Pollard scored the win in honor of his late friend.

“I told them earlier I’d give up all 18 wins this year for this one,” said an emotional Pollard in victory lane.  “It means a lot to me and my family and the whole crew.

“I didn’t have the best car.  It was so free, I didn’t know if I could hold on to it.  I told them I was going to give it all I had.  I know he was riding with me and it means a lot to me.”

Pollard will be back Saturday night to defend his 2011 win.  A repeat won’t come easy, however, as some of the toughest Pro Late Model competition in the country will be on hand to try to score the victory.  Entries include 2011 Snowball Derby champion, 2008 World Crown 300 champion Russell Fleeman, NASCAR Camping World Truck Series driver Max Gresham, Spencer Davis, Anderson Bowen, Mason Mitchell, Mason Massey, Colt James, Kyle Benjamin, Augie Grill, Mike Garvey, R.S. Senter, and Shawn Simpson, among others.

Also on tap for Saturday night is local action from the Trucks, Outlaw Late Models, Sportsman, Renegades, and Sportsman divisions.

GMP will also have several off-track events, including an Easter egg drop on the frontstretch.

Grandstands open at 11 am Saturday, with PLM qualifying slated for 3:45 pm, and racing set to begin at 5:25 pm.
