Bobby Dixon had the luck of the Irish on St. Patrick’s Day, as he scored the Open Wheel Modified feature victory at East Bay Raceway Park in Tampa, FL Saturday night.  Dixon had to hold off Buzzie Reutimann for the win.

Dixon and Reutimann led the field to the green flag, with Dixon taking the top spot.  Reutimann tucked in on the back of Dixon’s back bumper.

The first caution came out on lap three, when Nate Bregenzer spun in turn two.  When the race resumed, Dixon once again pulled out to lead Reutimann. Austin Sanders moved up to challenge Reutimann for second, with the two battling lap after lap until the caution came out again on lap eleven.

Dixon got a great restart and went on to win the feature. In victory lane, Dixon thanked everyone for helping him out, including his wife Ginger and his family. Reutimann finished second with Sanders, David Pollen, Jr., and Thomas Pratt rounding out the top five.

Sanders, Pollen, Jr., and Reutimann won their heat races.

Before the feature started, the Open Wheel Modifieds paid tribute to the passing of Keith Heard as the field made a lap with the missing man. Keith’s son, Mike was the honorary starter for the event.

In other action, the Street Stocks led off the feature action on the night.  Donnie Reed and Eric Moon led the field to the green flag.  Reed jumped out front early, with Moon giving chase.

The first caution came out on lap five when Shana Chevillot spun in turn two. When the green flag waved once again, Reed showed the way with Moon still giving chase, along with Thomas Burnside, Jeff Rodgers, and Jim Baker.

On lap eight, Burnside spun in turn four collecting several cars including Baker and Andy Lee. Lee’s sheet metal was torn off both sides of his car.  His night was over, as was Baker’s.

Reed would hold the lead on the final restart, and would stay there to the end, scoring the win.  Moon finished second, with Rodgers third, Burnside fourth, and Kenny Myers in fifth.

Limited Late Models were next with Forrest Gough taking the early lead.  Gough had broken in his heat race, but had repaired it in time for the feature.  He would lead until the final laps, when a broken right front suspension handed the lead to Scotty Williams.  Williams would pick up his second straight win, followed by Shane Koperda.  Gough would soldier on to finish third, with Jason Russell in fourth, and Jim Rowley finishing fifth.

Following the Open Wheel Modified feature, the 4 Cylinder Bombers were next on the track.  Richard Humfeld and Jason Burside led the field to the green flag.  Humfeld would lead into turn one, but Raymond Vann would sweep past to take over the top spot.

On lap seven, Eddie Summitt slowed in turn one bringing out the first caution. Michael Hart also broke on the front stretch, ending his night.

A big crash on the restart in the first turn collected several cars, and sent last week’s winner, Patrick Fiore, Jr., on a wild ride, with his car rolling over, bringing out the red flag.  Fiore, Jr. was uninjured, but was done for the night.

When racing resumed, Vann appeared to have problems, handing the lead over to Bubba Puyear.  As the laps wound down, Johnnie Alexander, who had started the feature shotgun on the field, passed Puyear for the lead.  He would hold on for the win, topping John Moore, Puyear, Jason Burnside, and Troy Dittebrand.

The finals feature of the night was for the Dirt Daubers, as they made their first appearance of the 2012 season.  Bill Dixon scored the win, with his wife Janien finishing second.  Two time champion Brett Phillips finished third, with Harry Bolle and Henry Wylee rounding out the top five.

ASA Racing continues next week with the Late Models, East Bay Sprints, Outlaw Fours and the Motorstats.com 4 Cylinder Bombers. For more info, visit www.eastbayracewaypark.com.
