Linder, Gray Grab USCS Carolina Double Header Wins

Carolina was on the minds of Matt Linder and Terry Gray over the weekend, as the pair won in the United Sprint Car Series presented by Goodyear Carolina double header weekend at Carolina Speedway in Gastonia, North Carolina on Friday and at Lancaster Motor Speedway in Lancaster, South Carolina on Saturday.

Linder, from Hoschton, Georgia charged to the victory in the 30 lap USCS feature after starting on the pole position.

It was Linder’s second USCS feature win of the 2011 season. USCS National point’s leader Terry Gray from Bartlett, Tennessee followed in the runner-up position  Last weekend’s Randy Helton Memorial race winner, Morgan Turpen, earned the final Podium position in third place. Johnny Bridges and Anthony Nicholson rounded out the top five.

2010 Southern Thunder regional series Rookie of the Year, Eric Riggins, Jr. from Charlotte, North Carolina, finished sixth with Jake McLain, A.J. Maddox, Lance Moss and Darren Clark finishing out the top ten.

Terry Gray kicked off the evening by winning the six-lap Goodyear Power Dash. Matt Linder won the Engler Tool and Machine First Heat. Morgan Turpen won the Butlerbuilt Second Heat. Anthony Nicholson passed the most cars in the A-main event to garner the Wilwood Engineering Hard Charger Award. Matt Linder collected the K&N Filters Pole Award.

The second half of the double-header weekend was held the next night at Lancaster Motor Speedway in Lancaster, South Carolina, on Saturday.

Defending and nine-time United Sprint Car Series presented by Goodyear National Champion, Terry Gray from Bartlett, Tennessee, raced to his third victory. Gray wired the field to lead all 25-laps around the half mile clay oval in his Rislone Engine Treatment sponsored, Wesmar powered #10 J&J Auto Racing sprint car.

His win came over his K&N Filters Pole Position starting team-mate, Morgan Turpen, from Cordova, Tennessee. Linder finished third, with Lane Moss and Pendergrass, Georgia’s Brian Thomas rounding out the top five.

Johnny Bridges, Bob Auld, brothers David and Darren Clark from Huntersville, North Carolina, finished in eighth and ninth places respectively, with Anthony Nicholson completing the top ten.

Nicholson kicked off the action by winning the six-lap Goodyear Power Dash. Lance Moss won the Engler Tool and Machine First Heat. Brian Thomas won the Butlerbuilt Second Heat. Johnny Bridges passed the most cars in the A-main event to garner the Wilwood Engineering Hard Charger Award. Morgan Turpen collected the K&N Filters Pole Award.

The next USCS Outlaw Thunder Tour presented by Goodyear events are over the Fourth of July weekend. The schedule is set for a triple-header that kicks off Friday, July 1 at Malden Speedway in Malden, Missouri. The series then moves into Tennessee for the final two nights. Saturday, July 2 finds the USCS drivers attacking the high banks of ¼ mile Thunderhill Raceway in Summertown, Tennessee.
