Jonathan Davenport led wire-to-wire en route to the win in Sunday’s rain delayed Southern All Star Dirt Racing Series event at Cherokee Speedway in Gaffney, South Carolina.
The Blairsville, Georgia speedster pocketed a cool $12,000 after leading all 60 laps in the event, going on to record his ninth career series victory.
Davenport set fast time in qualifying, and then led all ten laps in his heat race.
Davenport jumped out to the early lead, but would come under fire from Ross Bailes a few times on restarts. Bailes was unable to make the pass, and would soon fall back to battle with Jimmy Owens for the runner up position.
Up front Davenport drove to the win, with Owens in second, Bailes in third, Michael Page in fourth and Dave Breazeale in fifth.
Dustin Mitchell, Chris Madden, Brandon Overton, Riley Hickman and Zach Leonhardi rounded out the top ten.
The Southern All Star Dirt Racing Series returns to action on Saturday, April 20 at Thunderhill Raceway in Summertown, Tennessee. For more info, visit SASDirt.com.
