Nick Schlager powered to the lead on the opening lap of Saturday night’s FASTRAK Pro Late Model feature at Georgia’s Toccoa Raceway, and drove to the victory on the opening night of the track’s “King of the Highbanks” playoffs.
The Royston, Georgia driver took the lead away from Kenny Collins on the first lap of the 20 lap feature at the historic 5/16 mile clay speedway. Collins pursued Schlager throughout the race, but Schlager turned flawless laps to hold off Collins for his third win of the season.
Collins would have to settle for a second place finish, with Danny Sanders coming home in third.
In other action, Daniel Wilson took the early lead from polesitter David McCoy in the Midsouth Cage Equipment Limited Late Model feature. But McCoy would battle back to the point on lap five, and went on to take his 11th feature victory of the season. Wilson followed in second, with Mason Tucker in third.
Rusty House scored his fifth win of the season in the Safety Plus 602 Sportsman division feature, leading flag-to-flag en route to the victory. Brandon Stroud finished in second, followed by Crandall Turner in third.
Sterling Helm took the win in the Modified Street feature, with Justin Sims in second and Smokey Roberts in third.
In the Toccoa Pro Trucks feature, Matthew Furgerson took the lead on the drop the green flag. Sterling Helm battled to take the lead throughout the race, but fell short as Furgerson scored the victory. Bill Pulliam finished in third.
Kevin Kelly claimed his seventh Stock 4 Cylinder feature win of the 2018 season, with Jamie Massey and Randy Boshears rounding out the top three.
Ben Carswell scored his first Toccoa Raceway victory in the Stock V8 feature, followed by Hayden Collett in second and Ray Foskey in third.
In the O’Reilly Auto Parts Front Wheel Drive feature, it was a trio of asphalt regulars at South Carolina’s Anderson Motor Speedway sweeping the podium, led by winner B.J. Davis. Scott Parker finished in second, with Travis Barbare in third.
Caylan Kettle topped the Kettle Construction Company Young Guns feature, followed by Preston Kelly in second and Jacob Kelly in third.
Toccoa Raceway returns to action on Saturday, August 18, as the track plays host to the Alpha Art 602 Thunder Touring Series, along with round two of Toccoa’s King of the Highbanks playoffs.
