Wesley Mayfield opened up the 2016 Summit Points Bracket Drag Racing season at Atlanta Dragway in Commerce, GA in high style Saturday, as he topped a 36 car field to score the Super Pro division win.
Mayfield, from Gainesville, GA, ran a 4.671 ET in the final at 131.73 mph on a 4.61 dial in with a .017reaction. He defeated Floyd Brown from Conyers, GA in his ‘72 Vega. Brown ran a 7.034 ET on his 6.80 dial in at 92.67 mph with a .009 reaction.
Eric Smith from Baldwin, GA in his ‘71 Nova scored the Pro victory over Commerce, GA’s Eric Lewis when Lewis had a foul start.
Smith ran a 6.462 ET at 105.63 mph with a reaction of .078 to Lewis’ 6.551 ET at 106.60 mph on a 6.62 dial in and a foul -.237 reaction.
In the Sportsman final, Allen Long from Ball Ground, GA piloted his Chevy Truck to the win over Joey Rutledge from Austell, GA in his 2015 Mustang. Long ran a 16.978 ET on his 17.01 dial in at 79.52 mph with a .022 reaction time. Rutledge ran a 13.042 ET off his 13.11 dial in at 111.15 mph with a red light start of a -.009 foul.
In Super Pro Bikes, Lawrenceville, GA’s David Fletcher rode his ‘84 Kawasaki to the win over Daryl Johnsey from Cartersville, GA on his ‘08 Kawasaki. Fletcher ran a 5.845 ET off his 5.74 dial in at 101.20 mph with a reaction of .061. While Johnsey ran a 7.267 ET on his 7.20 dial in at 93.70 mph with a .252 reaction time.
Randy Barnett from Colbert, GA on his ‘08 GSXR took the Street ET Bike win over Randall Long from Buckhead, GA. Barnett ran a 9.071 ET on a 9.05 dial in at 146.51 and a .010 reaction time, with Long running a 9.150 ET off his 9.13 dial in at 140.15 mph and a reaction time of .025.
In the 1320 Dash race, Canton, GA’s Chad Brewer won in his ‘68 Camaro over Scott Reynolds from Cartersville, GA in his ‘02 Camaro. Brewer ran a 10.809 ET on his 10.77 dial in at 115.76 mph with a .008 reaction. Reynolds ran a 13.254 ET off his 13.18 dial in at 106.45 mph with a .041 reaction.
In 6-9 Jr. Dragster action, six-year-old Shawn Wilson from Jefferson, GA defeated seven-year-old Stephen Skelton from Cleveland, GA. Wilson ran a 14.456 ET on his dial in of 14.00 at 40.64 mph with a .759 reaction. Skelton ran a 12.451 ET on his 12.75 dial in (break out) at 55.03 mph and a reaction of .234.
In the 10-12 Jr. Dragster finals, Kimberly Vancica from Lawrenceville, GA defeated Cannon Stiles (11) from Winder, GA. Vancica ran a 8.782 ET on her 8.90 dial in and a -.067 reaction against Stiles, who red lighted first, on his run of 8.907 ET with a 8.90 dial in at 72.20 and a reaction of -.079.
In the 13-17 Jr. Dragster finals, 13-year-old Jackson Earwood from Cleveland, GA over Austin Carden from Monticello, GA. Earwood ran a 7.928 ET on his 7.90 dial in at 84.78 mph and a .127 reaction against Carden who ran a 7.923 ET on a 7.90 dial in at 82.46 mph but he left the red light shining with a -.015 reaction.
