Mike Marlar Collects Spring Thaw Opener At Volunteer

Mike Marlar rolled to his third career Old Man’s Garage Spring Nationals Series victory on Friday Night at Volunteer Speedway in Bulls Gap, TN during the 15th Annual Spring Thaw opening night.

Marlar, of Winfield, TN, inherited the lead when leader Chris Madden was caught up in an incident on lap 22 with Jake O’Neil. Madden spun, and was sent to the rear of the field, moving Marlar to the top spot.

From there, Marlar drove to the win over Chickamauga, Georgia’s Dale McDowell, who finished in second. Rick Eckert finished third, with Dawsonville, Georgia’s Donald McIntosh in fourth and Gregg Satterlee in fifth.

Four cautions slowed the 40 lap feature. The first came on lap 11 as Mack McCarter slowed on the backstretch. The second was for the O’Neil-Madden incident on lap 22. The third flew on lap 31 when Cody Mahoney stopped with a blown left-rear tire at the top of turn three. The final yellow came on lap 36 as Mark Vineyard spun in turn three.

Jason Covert, Eric Wells, Shanon Buckingham, David Payne and Stacy Boles rounded out the top ten finishers.
