Dale McDowell had a flawless night Friday, as he led every lap of the Lucky Star 40 to score the Southern Nationals Bonus Series victory at Boyd’s Speedway in Ringgold, GA.
The Chickamauga, GA driver picked up $4,000 in winning his first win on the tour. He became the 18th different series winner and second different winner this season.
Pole sitter Cory Hedgecock and McDowell brought the field down to the start of the 40-lap main event with McDowell jumping to the early lead. Hedgecock and Donald McIntosh would tuck in line for second and third. By the fifth lap, sixth place starter Jonathan Davenport had worked his way up to fourth.
Two caution flags slowed the feature. The first came on lap 13 when Tim Busha slowed on the front stretch with an oil leak. The final yellow flag came on lap 36 when Jason Welshan slowed at the top of turn two.
Meanwhile, McDowell would continue to lead and would drive away to score the victory. McIntosh finished in second, with Hedgecock in third, Davenport in fourth and Jared Landers in fifth.
Randy Weaver, Jason Croft, Jason Hiett, Aaron Ridley and David Payne rounded out the top five.
The Southern Nationals Bonus Series will take the month of April off, returning to action on May 20 at Tennessee’s Crossville Speedway for a 50-lap, $5,000-to-win event.
