Davenport Claims Tarheel 50 Victory At Tri-County

Jonathan Davenport claimed the $1,000 bounty on Casey Roberts at Tri-County Race Track in Brasstown, NC when he took the $3,500 victory in Thursday night’s Tarheel 50 for the Southern Nationals Bonus Dirt Late Model series.

Davenport, of Blairsville, GA, led start-to-finish in the 53 lap feature for his second win in the 12 year history of the event. Roberts, of Toccoa, GA, finished second while Billy Ogle, Jr. finished third.

Five caution flags slowed the event. On lap five, Ronnie Payne and Joe Brewer got together in turn four to bring out the first yellow. On lap 13, George Mashburn spun in turn four to bring out the second caution. On lap 20, Jamie Oliver would spin in turn two to bring out the third yellow flag.

The next caution would wave on lap 24 as Randy Nichols came to a stop at the top of turn four while, under the caution, third place running Austin Smith slowed on the back stretch. The final yellow came on the 49th circuit, as Ashton Winger got into the turn two wall and had to be towed to the pits.

Dawsonville, GA’s Donald McIntosh finished in fourth, with and David Payne in fifth.

Vic Hill, Shawn Chastain, Tommy Bailey, Jacob Grizzle of Blairsville, GA and Rodney Weeks of Blue Ridge, GA rounded out the top ten.

The next Southern Nationals Bonus Series race will be on Saturday, November 14, at Boyd’s Speedway in Ringgold, GA, paying $5,000-to-win.
