Jonathan Findley scored his first career Late Model victory in the early morning hours on Sunday, beating out teammate Andrew Grady in the second of two Late Model feature races Southern National Motorsports Park in Lucama, NC.

“Feels good,” Findley said after leading every lap in the second race to score his first career win. “Been working on this win for quite a while this year. Finally got one. It’s a sigh of relief. This is my first win in almost four years. It feels good. Hopefully many more to come.”

Findley’s victory was his first of any kind since racing in the Bandolero division at Old Dominion Speedway, which is no longer in operation, in Manassas, Virginia. While Findley dominated the second race, the first race was the spectacle.

Findley was leading the race but a series of late race cautions changed the complexion significantly. Behind him, points leader Rusty Daniels was running in second with Andrew Grady in third. Entering turn three, the two drivers made contact sending Daniels hard into the outside wall. On lap 40, after Grady took possession of the lead, Findley made contact with Tyler Matthews. Race officials sent Findley to the rear of the field for the contact. Grady went on to score the win, his fourth win of the season, in controversial fashion.

“Controversial is a very strong word,” Grady said. “I like hard fought, not easy to come by. It got a little rough between the top four. Everybody was beating and banging. We went down the backstretch and Rusty crowded me up in the wall. I had to get him off of me. I touched him and he lost it and stuffed it in the fence. I’m very happy for everybody on this team. This win is for Tommy Hartman. That’s four for him.”

Tyler Horne swept the two U-CAR races that comprised of the final leg of the Ultimate Body Shop Triple Crown U-CAR Series. Horne beat Lynn Waller, who won the Ultimate Body Shop Triple Crown U-CAR Series championship, and Joseph Pittman in the first race. In the second race, he raced his way from last to first, beating out Buckshot Jones and Travis Miller.

Michael O’Brien passed Wayne Goss in the closing laps of the Charger race to score the victory over Goss and Tom Sauls. Dillon Spain picked up his second win of the season in the Legends feature. Jesse Jones won the debut race for the Stinger division and Blaise Brinkley scored the win in the Bandolero race over Kailey Murray.

On Sunday, Dillon Spain Motorsports swept the INEX Legends doubleheader, with Spain scoring the win in the first race and Will Bristle winning the second race.

Spain led wire-to-wire in the first race while the racing behind him was wild. In the closing laps of the race, a big crash, highlighted by Tony Mangini’s car barrel rolling, took several cars out of contention. One of those cars was Will Bristle, who was running second when he was on the receiving end of contact from Mason Diaz.

When the race resumed after a half hour stoppage, Spain drove away from Ryan DeMartini and Sparky West to score the win. While the win put him on the pole for the second race, his luck would not be so fortunate when an ignition wire fell off, ending his race.

“We had a really good car that first race,” Spain said. “That second race, we were looking pretty good and the wire for the ignition fell out of the dash so that kind of screwed me there. It’s a solid win for Will. If I can’t win this is the best possible scenario. The car is most definitely on a rail right now. Will finally put my winning streak to an end. That was seven wins in a row with that car so, congratulations to him.”

Will Bristle dominated in the second race but he had to survive challenges from Mason Diaz during a series of restarts. Bristle was able to hold Diaz off and drive away to score the victory.

“The first race, we kind of got in a wreck there,” Bristle said. “We got it back together, came back and it was a good national points and track points day. It was a long race. I never thought the cautions would end. I can’t thank everyone enough.”

Mason Diaz’s second place finish in the second race of the Sunday matinee was his best result of the 2015 season.

“It was a good points day,” Diaz said. “Finished right behind Will and hopefully caught up a little bit but he won so probably not. In the end, the car was really good. It was hooked up, fastest it’s ever been this year. Hopefully next time, we’ll bring home a win. I knew the restarts were where I needed to get him because his car was hooked up when the race started going. I was there but didn’t have enough for him.”

Spain’s victory came over Ryan DeMartini with Sparky West, Bristle and Chris Stancil rounding out the top-five in the first race. The top five in the second race were Bristle, Stancil, Matt Dail and DeMartini.

D.J. Canipe swept the Bandolero doubleheader.

“I had fun,” Canipe said. “It was actually my second time here. I like this track. It’s a lot of fun.”

Josh Kossek, who leads the Bandolero standings at Southern National Motorsports Park, finished second in the first race while Dustin Yeoman finished third. In the second race, Yeoman finished second while Kossek finished third. Kossek’s podium finishes, combined with Kailey Murray’s struggles, allowed him to extend his lead in the division championship standings.

The next race at Southern National Motorsports Park will be the Dog Days Clash on August 1 featuring a $1,600-to-win, 100 lap Late Model race, the return of the Street Stock division, a $1,000-to-win Enduro Derby as well as racing in the Charger, U-CAR, Legends and Bandolero divisions.
