Darrick Klima of Belleville, KS won the season opener on Friday night at Salina Speedway in Salina, KS for the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series.
After Week 6 of the 27-week NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series 2015 season, just one point separate the top two drivers in the standings in the battle for the $10,000 National Championship. Michael Arnold of Hattiesburg, MS still leads with a total of 240 points, but Shannon Lee of Lumberton, MS has closed in from the second spot with 239 points.
Arnold did not compete in NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series Week 6 competition, but he has four wins, five top five finishes and six top ten finishes in 6 races over five weeks driving the Strength Center Special.
Lee had a pair of third-place finishes at Hattiesburg Speedway in Hattiesburg, MS on Friday night and at St. Tammany Raceway in Lacombe, LA on Saturday night driving the Billy Riels Racing Special to earn 48 points in NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series Week 6 competition. Lee has one win and seven top five finishes in seven races over five weeks.
The 2013 NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series National Champion Noah Daspit of Kiln, MS moved up to the third spot in the standings with 227 points after a sixth-place finish on Friday night at Hattiesburg Speedway in the Billy Riels Racing Special. Daspit has one win, two top five finishes and four top ten finishes in five races over five weeks.
Three-time NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series West Region Champion Lucky Keeton of Collinsville, MS took the win on Friday night at Hattiesburg Speedway driving the Byram Trucking GRT to move up to the fourth spot in the standings with 193 points. Keeton has one win, four top five finishes and five top ten finishes in five races over weeks.
Cliff Williams of Star, MS is fifth in the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series standings with 192 points after one win, three top five finishes and four ten finishes in five races over four weeks driving the Cliff Williams Plumbing GRT. Williams did not compete in Week 6 action.
Joseph Joiner of Milton, FL drove the Three Trade Consultants Special to a fourth-place finish on Friday night at Hattiesburg Speedway to move up to the sixth spot in the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series standings with 186 points after one win and three top five finishes in four races. Joiner also leads the NeSmith Panhandle Challenge Series point standings.
Sid Scarbrough of Florence, MS is seventh in the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series standings with 175 points after one top five finish and three top ten finishes in five races over four weeks. Scarbrough finished seventh on Friday night at Hattiesburg Speedway driving the Villa South Trak-Star.
Hunter Lewis of Moss Point, MS makes his first appearance in the top 10 of the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series point standings after Week 6 competition, landing in the eighth spot after driving the T. Lewis Construction Rocket to a fourth-place finish on Saturday night at St. Tammany Raceway. Lewis has 174 points after one top five finish and four top ten finishes in four races.
Justin McRee of Woodstock, AL is ninth in the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series standings with 173 points after driving the High Roller Race Cars Special to one top five finish and four top ten finishes in five races over four weeks. McRee did not compete in Week 6 action.
There is a three-way tie for the tenth spot in the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series standings among Nick Thrash of Meridian, MS, Dustin Boykin of Wiggins, MS and Al Kouhout of Hattiesburg, MS with 172 points apiece. Thrash and Boykin did not compete in Week 6 action, but Kouhout drove the Tophen’s Rock and Roll Grill Special to a tenth-place finish on Friday night at Hattiesburg Speedway.
Thrash has one top five finish in four races driving the McDevitt Enterprises GRT, and Boykin has two top five finishes and four top ten finishes in five races over four weeks in the Boykin Racing Trak-Star. Kouhout has three top ten finishes in four NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series races.
The 2014 NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series National Championship Runner-Up Mike Palasini Jr. drove the MP Trucking Special to victory in the season opener on Saturday night at Greenville Speedway in Greenville, MS. Kody Barber of Bogalusa, LA was the winner on Saturday night at St. Tammany Raceway driving the Barber’s Hardware Special.
Keeton’s win gave three-time NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series Chassis Manufacturers Challenge Series Champion GRT Race Cars of Greenbrier, AR the outright point lead with three wins this season. The defending and three-time Champion Trak-Star Race Cars built by Boland Performance of Cuba, AL and Rocket Chassis of Shinnston, WV are tied for second with two wins apiece.
CVR Race Cars of Lenoir City, TN is fourth in the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series Chassis Manufacturers Challenge Series standings with one win, while Warrior Race Cars built by Goddard Performance of Knoxville, TN is still looking for their first win of the season.
