After running into issues in the early weeks of the season, Easley, SC’s Trey Gibson finds himself in the midst of a winning streak.
Saturday night, he extended that hot streak by scoring another Late Model Stock victory at the historic Greenville Pickens Speedway in Easley, SC.
Tasha Kummer was on the point at the start of the race, after the top five qualifiers were inverted for the start of the event. Gibson, who started fourth, took just seven laps to run her down and take the race lead.
Current division points leader David Roberts moved into contention, taking over the lead in the middle laps. He couldn’t hold off Gibson, who retook the lead with 10 laps to go, and drove away for the victory.
“I was able to take the lead early, but then I lost it,” Gibson said in victory lane. “But late in the race I was able to pass and reclaim the top spot.”
Roberts finished in second, with Kummer third, Bob Root fourth and Andrew Cordell in fifth.
In other action, Jason McGrew drove to victory lane in the Pure Street Stock class. Chris Meinders was second, with Jamie McCall in third, Freddy Hale, Jr. in fourth and Hank Hutto in fifth.
In the Super Renegades feature, Tim Sams wouldn’t be denied another trip to victory lane, as he scored the win. Ricky Stephens finished in second, with Stanley Pressley third, Josh Sams in fourth and Dale E. Walker in fifth.
Eric Stokes won the Renegade main event after a fierce battle in the closing laps with Brad Burns, who held on for second. Shane Hill was third with Bobby Emory in fourth and Daniel Jameson in fifth.
Michael Cross grabbed the lead early in the Four-Cylinder FWD feature and went on to score the win. Travis Shelton, Don Tavernia, Danny Esco, and Sandra Tavernia rounded out the top five.
Greenville-Pickens Speedway is slated to return to action on Saturday, May 2, headlined by a 100 lap feature for the Late Model Stock division. For more info, visit GreenvillePickens.com.
