Schmuass Wins In Late Models At East Bay Raceway Park

Dave Schmauss inherited the lead on lap 14, and went on to score the Late Model feature Saturday night at East Bay Raceway Park in Tampa, FL.

Dalton Myers and Schmauss made up the front row for the feature and when the green waved Myers spun in turn two, collecting four other drivers in the spin. Myers, Shan Smith, Roger Crouse, Bryan Bernhardt and Kyle Musselman were all caught up in the incident. Musselman would be the only driver to continue, leaving Crouse and Bernhardt with heavily damaged cars.

When the race restarted, Doug Horton jumped out to the lead. He would hold the top spot for the first 13 laps until he slowed on the back stretch ending his night. That turned the lead over to Schmauss, with Phillip Cobb and Kenny Monahan rounding out the top three. With only five laps to go second place Cobb slowed and would retire to the pits ending his night. Schmauss went on to hold off Musselman to score his first win of the 2014 Season. Kenny Monahan finished in third, with Megan Meyer in fourth and Cobb in fifth.

In other action, Buck Woodhouse and Tim Gay made up the front row for the Q Auto & Injury Attorney Street Stocks 15 lap feature event. When the green waved Gay quickly jumped out in front to take over the top spot. The first caution of the feature came out on lap 10 when Roberto Morfin, Sr. spun in turn two. Gay would lead the field to green on the restart as Woodhouse gave chase. The second and final caution came out as David Barwick, II spun in turn two. Gay go on to pick up his fifth feature win of the season. Woodhouse finished in second, with Thomas Burnside in third, Matt Bozeman in fourth and Billy Barstow in fifth.

Next up were the Limited Late Models with Henry Burnside and Tim Dowling leading the field to green. Dowling would take the lead until lap two when Louis Ledlow spun in turn four bringing out the first caution. On the restart Dowling would lead until the next lap when Forrest Gough crossed the line by half a car length over Dowling. The two swapped positions on the next lap and Dowling would this time lead Gough by a car length. Dowling led until Gough took over on lap seven. He would go on to win his fourth straight feature win of the season. Rounding out the top five were Henry Burnside, Dale Pope, Jason Russell and Jessica Robbins.

The last feature of the night was the Motorstats.com 4 Cylinder Bombers with Richard Humfeld and Kayla Jones making up the front row. When the green waved it was Humfeld leading with Jones right behind him. The two were side by side at the line on lap two battled for the next several laps until Jones took over on lap five. Caution would come out before lap six was completed when Gary Lucas slowed in turn one, ending his night.

When the checkered waved it was Jones winning her first feature of the season with Handy second followed by Richard Humfeld in third, Cindy Mann in fourth and Brett Calonge rounding out the top five.

Racing continues Saturday night as the Eagle Jet Top Gun Sprints return for their second appearance at East Bay Raceway Park. Along with them will be the Gagel’s Open Wheel Modifieds, V8 Warriors and the Motorstats.com 4 Cylinder Bombers.
