Haney Powers To First NeSmith WRS Victory At Whynot

Casey Haney of Meridian, MS drove the Sinclair Auto Sales Rocket to his first career NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series Late Model win on Saturday night at Whynot Motorsports Park in Meridian, MS, earning $1,000 in Week 7 of 2014 action.

Meanwhile, Adam Gauldin of Talladega, AL and Daniel Bridgmon of Meridian, MS are tied for the point lead, and Chris Holley of Dayton, TX remains undefeated as he continues his climb up the standings.

Gauldin finished sixth on Saturday night at Arkadelphia Speedway in Bremen, AL to bring his point total up to 336. Bridgmon took the third spot on Saturday night at Whynot Motorsports Park to also end the weekend with 336 points.

After competing in eight races over seven weeks, Gauldin has two wins, six top five finishes and eight top ten finishes driving the Adam Gauldin Racing GRT. Bridgmon has two wins, seven top five finishes and eight top ten finishes in eight races over seven weeks driving the Robinson Electric Supply Special.

The two point leaders have a 33-point lead over the third-place driver in the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series point standings, Shannon Lee of Lumberton, MS, who finished fourth on Saturday night at Whynot Motorsports Park in the Billy Riels Racing GRT. Lee has competed in nine races over seven weeks with six top five finishes.

Just five points separate third through fifth in the point standings. Doug Sanchagrin of Florence, MS is fourth in the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series standings with 300 points after one top five finish and four top ten finishes in eight races over seven weeks driving the Permanent Exterior Solutions Trak-Star. Sanchagrin finished eighth on Saturday night at Whynot Motorsports Park.

Cruz Skinner of Oxford, AL is fifth with 298 points. The 12-year-old driver has one top five finish, and four top ten finishes in nine races over seven weeks driving the Skinner Body Shop Special. Skinner finished outside the top ten on Saturday night at Magnolia Motor Speedway in Columbus, MS, but still earned 41 points.

The battle for the sixth spot in the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series standings has the sixth through ninth-place drivers separated by just six points. Mike Combs of Odenville, AL did not compete in Week 7 competition, but has 279 points after one win, four top five finishes, and seven top ten finishes in seven races over six weeks driving the Pro Grafx Special.

Caleb Coan of Moulton, AL drove the Buttram Snacks Special to a second-place finish on Saturday night at Arkadelphia Speedway to his point total up to 276 and the seventh spot in the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series standings. Coan has four top five finishes and seven top ten finishes in seven races.

Nick Thrash of Meridian, MS is eighth in the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series standings with 274 points after one win, three top five finishes and six top ten finishes in seven races driving the McDevitt Enterprises GRT. Thrash finished outside the top ten on Saturday night at Whynot Motorsports Park, but still earned 41 points.

Casey Haney’s win at Whynot Motorsports Park vaulted him up to the ninth spot in the standings with 273 points. In six races, Haney has one win, three top five finishes and four top ten finishes.

Ronnie Cooper of McKenzie, TN rounds out the top ten in the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series standings with 266 points after six top five finishes in six races. Cooper finished fourth on Saturday night at Clayhill Motorsports in Atwood, TN driving the Ronnie Cooper Trucking Rocket.

Holley posted his fifth straight win on Saturday night at Battleground Speedway in Highlands, TX driving the Land Bridge Transportation Special and remains undefeated in NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series competition. With two less races under his belt than the point leaders, Holley is 17th in the standings with 200 points.

In other NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series Week 7 action, Chris Kratzer of Haysville, KS drove the O’Hara & O’Hara Special to victory on Friday night at Salina Speedway in Salina, KS, which was the only Friday night Week 7 race. Friday night events at Batesville Motor Speedway in Batesville, AR, Hattiesburg Speedway in Hattiesburg, MS, and the season opener at Lexington 104 Speedway in Lexington, TN were rained out.

Craig Turner of Flomaton, AL won on his first night out at Flomaton Speedway in Flomaton, AL driving the Turner Racing Trak-Star in a race co-sanctioned by the Southeastern Crate Series. Ashley Newman of Ripley, TN picked up his third win of the season on Saturday night at Clayhill Motorsports driving the Greg’s Sawmill Special.

Kyle Shaw of Millport, AL took his second straight NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series Late Model win on Saturday night at Magnolia Motor Speedway driving the Sweddenberg Logging Trak-Star, and Mike Palasini Jr. of Leland, MS also scored his second straight win on Saturday night at Greenville Speedway in Greenville, MS.

NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series Rookie of the Year point leader Chris Noah of Rainbow City, AL picked up a NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series Late Model win on Saturday night at Arkadelphia Speedway driving the Old Man’s Garage Special, and Jason Welshan of Maryville, TN was the $1,000 winner on Saturday night at 411 Motor Speedway in Seymour, TN driving the Hidden Hollow Racing Special.

NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series Week 7 Saturday night events at Southern Raceway in Milton, FL, St. Tammany Raceway in Lacombe, LA, and Talladega Short Track in Eastaboga, AL were rained out.

Trak-Star Race Cars built by Boland Performance of Cuba, AL received wins from Turner and Shaw to bring their NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series Chassis Manufacturers Challenge point lead up to nine victories on the season. Rocket Chassis of Shinnston, WV took over sole possession of the second spot with seven wins after a Week 7 victory from Haney.

GRT Race Cars of Greenbrier, AR is third in the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series Chassis Manufacturers Challenge standings with six wins, and CVR Race Cars of Lenoir City, TN is fourth with two wins. Warrior Race Cars built by Goddard Performance of Knoxville, TN is in the fifth spot in the chassis standings with one win.

TNT Race Cars of Piney Flats, TN is also participating in the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series Chassis Manufacturers Challenge and is still looking for their first win of the 2014 season.
