Lance Blacker had been a staple in the Modified class at South Alabama Speedway in Kinston, AL for several years, but last year, Blacker spent most of his time behind the wheel of a CupLite. Blacker was back in his Modified for the first time in 2014, and found himself in victory lane after the 25 lap feature.
Blacker grabbed the lead from the outside pole and sped away from the field to take the win. Chris Cotto chased Blacker all race, but couldn’t mount a serious challenge. Mario Lupi and Heath Mills had a good battle for the third spot, with Lupi holding off Mills for the spot. Jared Watson finished fifth.
Cameron Henderson took the lead from the start and survived a bevy of cautions to win the Super Stock Feature. Henderson jumped out to a five car length lead with Jamie Ater chasing during the first half of the race. The second half of the race was filled with cautions. Each time, Henderson was able to pull ahead of Ater. Ater spun out of contention on lap 20. Gary Davis took over the second spot, but had the same luck with Henderson as Ater. Henderson got the jump on the final restart with two laps to go and beat Davis back to the line to take the win. Adam Salter was third, followed by Ater and Mark Bullock.
Donald Crocker took the lead on lap two after contact with Daniel Davis sent the initial leader spinning, and went on to win the Street Stock Feature. Davis led the first lap, but eased up the track as Crocker was charging on the outside. There was contact, and Davis spun, collecting several others. From there, Crocker led the rest of the way. Johnny Otto was able to cut a little off of Crocker’s lead late in the race, but Crocker was still several car lengths ahead when the checkers fell. Daniel Parker and Billy Maxie were battling hard for the third spot. The pair battled side by side for the last couple of laps before Maxie slipped in turn four allowing Parker to take the spot. Dennis Thomas finished fifth.
Charles Gardner led flag to flag to take the Roadrunner Feature. Jake Daniels kept the pressure on Gardner all race, but Gardner never slipped and led Daniels to the checkered flag. Jason Kendrick ran a strong third with Lee Monaghan fourth and Tim Peters fifth.
Jonathan Johnson continued his ways in Coyote. Johnson took the lead on lap six and went on to take the win. David Williams came from the sixth starting spot to challenge Johnson, but couldn’t quite keep pace with Johnson. Ralph Sanders was third, Wesley Goleman fourth, and Michael Wolfe, Jr. fifth.
Dylan Wolfe grabbed the lead on lap two and went on to win the Mini Sportsman feature. Adam Salter challenged Wolfe early in the race but fell off the pace on lap thirteen, paving the way for Wolfe to enjoy an easy win. Keith Hutchinson came from the sixth starting spot to finish second. Kyle Sims was third with Jared Watson fourth and Randy Henderson fifth.
South Alabama Speedway will be closed May 10, but will reopen May 17 with the Pro Late Model Viper Series Sidewinder 100 headlining the night’s schedule. Also on the night’s schedule are feature races for the Modified, Street Stock, Roadrunner, Coyote, and Mini Sportsman classes. For more information, visit southalabamaspeedway.com.
