Kokomo, Indiana’s young Parker Price-Miller, just 15 years old, made an impressive debut in front of a field of experienced veteran drivers and a few other rookies to score the opening night King of the 360s victory as part of the 38th annual WinterNationals at East Bay Raceway Park in Tampa, FL.
Price-Miller jumped to the lead on the inside lane, and would lead every lap en route to the victory, despite several serious challenges by third starting Wayne Johnson.
The race only had one caution flag, when Christopher Bell spun high in turn two on the third lap.
“I could see Wayne sticking his nose inside me a couple of times, but I wanted this win,” said Price-Miller after the win. “Now that I’m here in victory lane I’m shocked that I won.”
Johnson finished in second, with Danny Smith in third, Russ Hall in fourth and Jason Sides in fifth.
Rico Abreu, Greg Hodnett, Bryan Sebetto, Danny Lasoski and Jerod Roller rounded out the top 10.
In other action, Dover, DE racer Luke Thomas jumped out to the early lead in the opening feature for the Florida Mini Sprints portion of the 38th annual WinterNationals, and would drive away to score the victory.
Thomas and Travis Senter would make up the front row for the feature. On the drop of the green, Thomas quickly jumped out front but would see the advantage fade as Trevor Baker spun in turn two, meaning the race would see a complete restart.
When the green waved once again it was Thomas quickly grabbing the lead once again with Senter trailing. Thomas would find himself working lapped traffic by lap five with Senter and Tyler Walton giving chase. The first caution would come out on lap 12 as Paige Moss spun in turn two.
Caution would fly again on lap 14 when Senter and Walton tangled coming out of turn four, with Senter getting the worst end of the deal by hitting turn four wall, bringing his night to an end.
With just two laps remaining Rae Lynn Moss spun in turn two bringing out the caution. Meanwhile, second place runner James Morris rolled to a stop on the front stretch, ending his chances to win.
Thomas powered back to the lead on the restart, and would not be challenged again as he went on to score the win. Tyler Walton finished second, with Jim Young in third, Kyle Lick in fourth and Sammy LaMore in fifth.
