Gresham Announces 21 Event Schedule For 2014

Gresham Motorsports Park has announced its 2014 schedule, a 21-event slate of motorsports events that will span the racing spectrum.

As always, one of the most prestigious short track Super Late Model Stock Car races in the country – the World Crown 300 – will anchor the 2014 half-mile racing schedule at GMP.

The 31st-annual World Crown 300-lap classic – originally contested in 1983 – has been scheduled for Saturday, August 9, 2014. An open practice for the event, which will again be a 2014 Southern Super Series championship point’s race, will be held on Friday, August 8.

The Southern Super Series will make a second GMP appearance on the GMP half-mile oval on Saturday, July 12.

Gresham Motorsports Park will also host a pair of high-profile Pro Late Model races in 2014. The ‘Pros’ will hit the GMP highbanks on Saturday, May 3 and again on Saturday, September 13.

Both the GMP Outlaw Late Model Stock Car and Truck Divisions will compete as part of the World Crown 300, the July 12 Southern Super Series and the May 3 and September 13 Pro Late Model events in 2014.

GMP will also debut its all-new ‘Stockerama’ programs in 2014. In all, eight ‘Stockeramas’ will be held this season featuring the Mini Stocks, Renegade and Front Wheel Drive Divisions on the GMP quarter-mile oval while the Outlaws and Trucks will compete on the half-mile.

“We listened really hard to what our fans and competitors asked for during the off-season and heard them loud and clear when they asked for more races in 2014,” stated John Close, GMP general manager. “The Stockeramas will provide that with eight events beginning on Saturday, April 5 and ending on Saturday, September 20 with the GMP Stockerama Championships. We think our local division racers are going to be happy to have more events this year and our fans are going to have a unique experience of seeing five divisions race on two different tracks in one night. Best of all, adult grandstand admission for the GMP Stockeramas is going to be just $10, so we anticipate a lot of fans will be on hand for all of these events throughout the 2014 season.”

Gresham Motorsports Park will also debut a second totally new program in 2014 when the ‘Christmas Tree’ counts down to green on the inaugural GMP Street Drags program on Saturday, April 12. In all, GMP will host eight Street Drag events this season with the 2014 GMP Street Drag Championships to be contested on Saturday, September 6.

“The Street Drag program will tie in with our ‘Every Fan Is A Racer’ theme in 2014,” said Close. “The events will be open to street cars only (no drag vehicles) and participants 16 years or older who have a current driver’s license. We’re not talking big time drag racing here – just a bunch of folks bringing their cars out to bracket and grudge race over a 300-foot ‘drag strip’ on the GMP pit road. It’s fun and safe. We’ll also have a Show and Shine event for the Custom and Classic Car crowd and a Burn Out contest for the real gear heads to close out the show every night. At just $5 to get in, we’re thinking the GMP Street Drag events are going to be the place to be this summer.”

Finally, Gresham Motorsports Park will host one of the fastest growing forms of motorsports when it welcomes Streetwise Drift on Sunday, May 11. The event will feature Pro and Amateur Drifters on a specially designed course that utilizes both the GMP oval and infield areas.
