Champions were determined on the final points night of the 2013 drag racing season at Atlanta Motor Speedway in Week 2 of the Fall Stampede of Friday Night Drags. The final race in multiple divisions was needed to determine a champion.
In the Super Pro Class, Mike Ramsey of Canton was able to overcome a fitting leak in the fuel line of his 2010 Dragster prior to his semi-final win. He then outdrove Arnie Cobb of Griffin and his 1974 Chevrolet Nova in the final to capture the points championship in the class.
“To come in and be able to run with some of these guys has been great,” said Ramsey. “It’s been a fun all year here at Atlanta Motor Speedway. The crowd has been great, the staff has been great and the competitors have been great all year.”
David Craft of McDonough in his 1986 Chevrolet Camaro entered the night one point out of first place in the Pro Class. He out drove Mark Allen of Hampton and his 1972 Chevrolet Vega in the final to win the Pro Class championship.
Frank Colllins of Zebulon in his 1967 Chevrolet Chevelle Super Sport picked up the victory tonight in the Street Modified Class with a win over Eric Roycroft. Kane Shavers of Griffin and his 1970 Chevrolet Monte Carlo SS advanced to the semi-finals and was able to keep his slim lead over Michael Gregory of Riverdale and his 1985 Ford Mustang for the points championship.
The father and son team of Joshua and Tony Morse of Grantville added another victory in their 1980 Chevrolet Malibu with a finals win over Terry Wells of Conley in the Summit Racing Equipment Sportsman Class. With Joshua behind the wheel, it was a rematch of his first race of the season against Wells.
“It was a nice to beat him tonight,” said Joshua Morse, “I’m excited to win the championship this year and I appreciate everything my dad has done for me. It was a great experience.”
Andrew Morgan of McDonough in his 1987 Ford Mustang came up short in the Semi Finals, but he picked up enough points on the night to propel him to the championship in the Domestic Class. Mike Capozzo of Williamson in his 1970 Mustang Mach 1 earned the win on the night as he defeated James Hunter.
Points champion in the Cycle Nation Super Bike Class, Tony Freeman of Stockbridge continued to dominate with his fourth consecutive victory at Friday Night Drags on his 2002 Suzuki Hayabusa.
