McDaniel, Garbo, Jr. Split Late Model Twins At Hickory

Austin McDaniel and David Garbo, Jr. both ended up in victory lane Saturday night, as they both scored wins in Late Model double headers at Hickory Motor Speedway in Hickory, NC.

In the first Late Model feature, Garbo Jr. started on the pole with the McDaniel on the outside. Garbo would take the early lead with McDaniel and Blake Jones racing hard behind him. On lap 22, Garbo’s car would begin to smoke. As the smoke continued to become worse, the officials would black flag Garbo to come to the pits and correct the problem. Meanwhile, on lap 24, Jacob Harrell spun in turn four. Garbo would return to the track but would retire on lap 27. McDaniel would remain in the lead with Jones and Keith Bumgarner closing on him. At the checkered flag it would be McDaniel scoring the win, followed by Jones, Jack Madrid, Bumgarner and Matt Piercy.

The second 50 lap race for the Late Models saw McDaniel and Blake Jones starting on the front row. McDaniel would jump out to the early lead with Jones second and Garbo third. Meanwhile a battle between Shane Lee, Piercy and Jack Madrid shaped up for fourth through sixth. On lap seven Bumgarner’s engine came apart, ending his night. On lap 32 Jones took the lead from McDaniel. However, on lap 35 Garbo Jr. overtook Jones for the lead, moving McDaniel to third. At the flag it would be Garbo Jr.and went on to score the win. Jones finished in second, with McDaniel third, Madrid fouth, and Dan Moore in fifth.

The K&P Construction 4 Cylinders would be next with Chase Pollard on the pole and Matthew Elledge starting second. Pollard would jump out to an early lead over Elledge. On lap 23 Nathaniel Kanupp and Eddie Gilbert made make contact in turn four, but both drivers regained control and continued racing to the checkered flag. In the end it would be Elledge taking the win, followed by Pollard, Kanupp, Gilbert and Adam Beaver.

Shane Lee and Josh Bralley made up the front row for the Limited Late Model feature. On the first lap Kyle Mansch, Casey Pierce and Jeremy Pelfrey raced three wide entering turn three, sending Mansch high, sliding back several positions. On lap 16, Allen Huffman spun in turn two to bring out the next caution. On the restart, Landon Huffman powerd to the lead while Justin Bolton moved into the third. On lap 24, the cars of Pierce and Bralley would make contact in turn two bringing out another caution. Caution would wave again on lap 24 when several cars where battling for position and got caught up into an accident in turn 3. In the end, it was Landon Huffman taking the win, with Bolton in second, Lee in third, Pierce in fourth and Mansch in fifth.

Charlie Neill and Carroll McKinney led the WrenchRags Renegades to green. Caution would fly on lap one for a spin by Ben Campbell. On the restart Neill would resume the lead with McKinney running second. On lap six Kyle DiVanna and Shawn Hayes made contact in turn three, with Steve Griffith getting swept up in the accident. On lap 15 Campbell would spin in three and four. Neill would go on to take the victory, followed by Hayes, McKinney, Daniel Moore and Blake Walker.
