Randy Porter powered to the lead on lap six of Friday night’s Late Model Stock feature at Anderson Motor Speedway in Williamston, SC, and drove off to score the win in a caution free race.

Justin Sorrow and Eric Stokes led the field to green, with the two doing battle side-by-side over the opening laps for the lead. Sorrow would make the pass on lap two, with Porter moving to second behind him. Four laps later, Porter would sweep past Sorrow for the top spot as the top four ran nose to tail for position.

Meanwhile, R.A. Brown began moving through the field, as he raced side-by-side with Austin Aker for fifth. Once clearing Aker, he began working to track down the lead pack. Up front, Kenneth Headen looked for third around Stokes, but could not make the move. On lap 21, Headen was able to make the pass on the backstretch, with Brown following in his tire tracks.

Behind the lead pack, Anthony Anders was working his way through the field, as he battled past Aker, and then began reeling in the leaders. Back up front, Brown was working hard to get a run on Headen. The battle would rage over the next the next 20 laps, until contact from Brown sent Headen up the track in turn one, allowing Brown, Stokes and Anders to slip past.

Up front, Sorrow began cutting into Porter’s lead. Sorrow was on the charge, and worked to close on Porter as the laps wound down. But he had too little laps to go and too much of a distance to make up, as Porter raced to the victory. Sorrow came across in second, with Brown in third, Stokes in fourth, and Anders in fifth.

In other action, the BM Modifieds made two appearances on the night for “Double Dozen” 12 lap features. In the first feature, Lance Jones jumped out to the early lead, but he would be quickly overhauled by Chuck Mitchell, with Casey Tucker giving chase. Mitchell and Tucker would fight for second over the next several laps, with Tucker finally taking the spot on lap 9. Mitchell would close on Tucker, and was challenging for the lead on the final lap in turn two when a crash on the front stretch involving Kelsey Roberts and Will Ragsdale brought out the caution, and subsequently a red flag for clean up. Race officials called the race, with Mitchell getting the win, with Tucker in second, Jones in third, Austin Northcutt in Tim Stokes in fifth.

In the second BM Modified feature, Mitchell moved out to the early lead, with Tucker and Northcutt in pursuit. While Mitchell moved out to a sizeable advantage, Tucker, Northcutt and Jones put on a spirited battle for second. It looked like Mitchell had a sweep of the BM Modified features in hand until his engine detonated going into turn one, sending his car around and laying oil down on the racing surface. Mitchell’s night was over. After a lengthy red flag to clean up the oil, the feature resumed with Tucker in the lead, followed by Jones and Bryce Malcolm. Tucker would go on to score the victory, with Jones in second, Malcolm in third, Stokes in fourth, and Northcutt in fifth.

In Mini-Stock action, Chad Campbell and Ben Kay did battle side-by-side early on, with Campbell moving away into the lead. The caution broke up the battle early on, as Ryan Howard spun in turn two, drawing the yellow flag. On the restart, Campbell moved back out to the lead, with Kay in second and David Darnell in third. Darnell would make his way around Kay for second, and then worked to track down Campbell. As the two leaders moved away, Kay, Ken Candiotti, and Mark Timmerman battled for third. Up front, Campbell drove away to pick up the win. Darnell, Candiotti, Timmerman, and Josh Roach rounded out the top five.

Shawn Campbell moved out to the early lead in the Evergreen Renegades feature, with Terry Thurston and Blake Gregory following. Gregory would move to second on lap two, leaving Thurston to battle with Jack Robertson for several laps for third. After batting and banging off each other for several laps, Robertson finally moved into third. Up front, it was Campbell driving away for the victory, with Gregory in second, Robertson in third, Thurston in fourth, and Tim Butler in fifth.

In Front Wheel Drives, Joey Kelley and Brian King battled hard for the lead over the opening laps, with Kelley coming away with the top spot, as B.J. Davis settled into third behind them. Davis would close on King, and made the pass to second on lap six. Moments later, the caution flew for debris in turn one. Caution would fly again two laps later when J.T. Fitzgerald spun in turn four. One lap later, a multi-car crash stacked up part of the field on the backstretch, involving Johnny Satterfield, C.J. Huitt, Jim Fitzgerald and J.T. Fitzgerald, leaving the track littered with debris. After a lengthy red flag to allow for clean up, Kelley would drive away to score the victory. B.J. Davis came home in second, with King in third, Tommy Davis in fourth, and Donovan Beacham in fifth.

Anderson Motor Speedway is back in action on Saturday, Aug. 10, with the X-1R Pro Cup Series in attendance for the Back To School 250, along with racing in the Legends and Front Wheel Drive divisions. For more info, visit andersonmotorspeedway.com.
