It’s not often that a driver completely dominates a race track the first time they race on it.

But with the kind of year Justin South has had, it wasn’t a big surprise that he came to the Jefferson, Georgia speed plant looking for nothing less than another first place trophy.

That’s what he left with, as South led every lap en route to the victory in the JEGS 100 Pro Late Model feature Saturday night on the Jefferson high banks.

South turned in the third fastest time in qualifying in the afternoon, trailing fast qualifier Hunter Robbins and GMP veteran Russell Fleeman on the scoring pylon. South would move up to the top spot when a pill draw called for a three car invert.

On the drop of the green, Fleeman would battle hard on the outside to try to take the top spot, but couldn’t contain South, as the No. 43 Ford powered into the lead. Robbins would move around Fleeman to fall into second on the second circuit around the speedway.

While the leaders battled up front, Colt James, Dalton Grindle and Fredrick Moore fought for seventh place, with Grindle getting the spot as James slipped back, fighting a handling issue.

Over the next 10 laps, Grindle and Moore would fight for position. Moore appeared to have the faster car, and at one point, it appeared that Grindle waved Moore by. However, Grindle continued to hold the lower line, taking away any passing lane that Moore might have. The two would mix it up over the next few laps, with Grindle continuing to use the lower line.

On lap 28, the fight between the two finally boiled over coming off the fourth turn, with contact sending Moore’s ride on top of Grindle. Grindle’s car made hard contact with the outside wall, and then spun down to the inside. Grindle exited his car and stormed to pit road, where he and crew chief Jimmy Garmon had a heated exchange of words before Grindle left pit road, his night over. Moore was able to continue, and would eventually finish in fifth place.

Back under green, Robbins would get his first crack at challenging South for the lead, but could not make the run stick, as South moved back to the top spot. Robbins settled again into second, with Garrett Jones moving to third.

Jones appeared to have a good run going, but that went away on lap 39, when Jones’ No. 88 slipped up high in turn four. Jones twice almost caught the car, but it finally got away from him coming off the turn, sending his car spinning down the front stretch and into the inside wall, drawing the second caution of the evening.

Fredrick Moore had issues near lap 55, when his car began trailing smoke, as he was losing power steering fluid. The caution came out when James went around off turn four, apparently having slipped in the fluid laid own by Moore. James kept his car off the wall, and was able to continue. Moore came to pit road, where his crew quickly repaired his power steering line and sent him back into the fray.

On the restart, Robbins would again try to challenge South for the lead, but would not only come up short, but found himself under fire by Fleeman for second. Robbins would hold the spot.

South would check out from there, and went on to walk away from the rest of the field to score the victory by a 2.337 second advantage at the end. Robbins finished in second, with Fleeman in third, Kyle Plott in fourth and Moore in fifth.

In other action, Spanky Hicks jumped out to the early lead, with Scotty Beck giving chase. Beck would see his night go south one lap later, as his car slowed and hit pit road with a mechanical issue. That moved Aaron Calvert, who was driving injured after suffering a broken wrist recently in a dirt track event, up to second, while Avery Burgess moved to third.

The first caution of the event flew on lap six when Brandon Segars went around off turn four. Steve Hall also went around behind Segars. Both were able to drive away.

Hicks and Calvert put on a side-by-side battle for several laps for the top spot, with Calvert putting a cross over move on Hicks at one point. Finally, Hicks pulled away with the top spot, while Scotty Beck, four laps down, showed he could have had a strong night by racing with the leaders.

The caution flew again with just five laps left in the feature when Segars again went around off turn two.

On the restart, Calvert powered his way out front on the outside, and tried to put some distance between himself and the field as Hicks and Burgess fought for second. Hicks would take the spot, and worked to track down Calvert. With two laps to go, Hicks was on Calvert’s back bumper, and tried hard to make a run work off turn two. But his gamble came up short, as his car broke loose off the turn, sending him around and ending his shot at the win.

On the restart, Burgess tried hard to get a run on the leader, but Calvert held him off and drove away to score the victory, broken wrist and all. Burgess finished in second, with Segars rebounding from those two spins to finish in third. Dion Ciccarelli came home in fourth, with Allen Cantrell in fifth.

A strong field of Trucks took the green flag for that division’s feature, with Jami Weimer leading the field to green. The top six stacked up side-by-side on the opening lap. Kevin Vasser would move to the lead, with Emilee Riley working her way to second and Matt Vasser moving to third. While Kevin and Riley did battle for the top spot, Matt would close on the lead duo, and on lap 10, he moved past Riley to second. As the feature reached halfway, Matt bypassed Kevin for the lead, and drove away for the victory. Riley finished in third, with Kristen Wallace in fourth and Ronnie Wehunt in fifth.
