Another great night of racing was capped off with another first time winner in Fairgrounds Speedway Nashville in Nashville, TN on Saturday night, as Spencer Davis picked up his first win in the Hunter Sand and Gravel Pro Late Model Division in dramatic fashion.

Mark Day returned to the Fairgrounds Speedway looking for his first win of the season on Saturday night. All was going to plan as he led the first 75 laps of this event, but things got wild as the caution flew multiple times late. Davey Coble started deep in the field and made quick work of everyone in front of him. By lap 75 he had moved all the way up to the third position. On the ensuing restart, Coble dove under second place Tucker Wingo and first place Day, as the trio went three-wide for the lead. Just as Coble moved to the lead, the caution flag flew yet again. On the restart, second place Wingo blew a tire and slapped the wall in turn one. That set up a sprint to the finish.

Dawsonville, GA’s Spencer Davis had quietly crept up to the second position, restarting on the outside of Coble with Day in third. Coble grabbed the lead off of the restart, while Day and Davis battled for second. Day got a bit too high exiting turn two, getting into Davis. The contact sent Day spinning, taking him out of contention for the win.

The race restarted under green-white-checkered conditions, with Davis and Coble leading the way. Davis got the jump at the line as Coble fell in line behind him. Coble closed the gap coming to the white flag. Coble got a nose under Davis coming out of turn two, and the two drag raced down the backstretch. The duo were neck and neck as they came through turns three and four for the final time. They came off turn four rubbing doors as Davis was able to capture the momentum off the high side, and scored the feature win by a nose.

It marked Davis’ first career win in the Hunter Sand and Gravel Pro Late Model division at Nashville. Coble finished in second, with Justin Ashburn in third, Dillion Oliver in fourth, and Sterling Marlin in fifth.

The Express Recycling Limited Late Model race came down to a two man show. Allen Carter and Steadman Marlin were locked in a tight battle for the first 30 laps of the race. Marlin was finally able to work his way around Carter with 10 laps to go. A spin by Bailey Wenthe off turn two brought out the caution, and stacked the field up one more time, giving Carter one last shot at Marlin. Despite Carter’s best efforts, Marlin was able to hold him off to score his second straight win. Allen Carter came home in second, with John Earheart in third, Ryan Lynch in fourth, and Clint Carter in fifth.

In the Open Wheel Modified feature, Jeff Letson took the lead from the drop of the green flag, starting on the outside of row one. Michael House kept Letson in his sights as the two pulled away from the rest of the field. With 10 laps to go, Letson slowed coming off turn two, a reported dropped a cylinder ending his chances of a win. This left Michael House all alone out front, allowing him to win his first Modified race of the season. Jim Wall came across the finish line in second, followed by Brandon Curren in third, Tim Lawson in fourth, and Ken Hickman in fifth.

Derrick Johnson dominated the Coyote Ugly Sportsman feature on Saturday night, leading every lap of the race. He was in his own zip code all race long. Without any cautions to bunch the field back up, Johnson cruised to his first win of the year. Daniel Bradford, Cody Buford, Howard Tucker, and Jason Sullivan rounded out the top five.

This Super Street division got a bit more interesting earlier this week as track president Tony Formosa put up a $200 bounty for anyone who could beat Bobby Joe Rippey. This must have motivated Rippey as no one even got close to him all night long. Rippey cruised to his fourth straight win of the year, causing Formosa to add another 100 dollars to his bounty.

Stephanie Barnes took the lead in the Pure Stock feature from the drop of the green flag and would never give it back. Barnes held her car right on the bottom lane for the entire race, despite constant pressure from Terry Jackson. Jackson raced her cleanly, but never was able to get around her as she scored her first career win in the Pure Stock division. Terry Jackson finished in second, with Joseph Williams in third, Brain Woodard in fourth, and William Coats in fifth.

The Legends feature produced a spirited battle between David Moyes and Chad Davis. Davis appeared to have the faster car and eventually got around Moyes for the lead, but it was short lived. Moyes applied pressure on the back bumper of Davis, causing Davis to give up the bottom lane. That allowed Moyes to get around for the lead, and to charge to his second straight win. Davis finished in second, followed by Tyler Cordell in third, Wayne Grubb in fourth, and Preston Young in fifth.

Wayne Basket ran away with the Front Runner victory. The race wasn’t short on action, with beating and banging all over the track. Basket was able to steer clear of all the carnage to lock up his second win in a row. Wayne Baskett, Jeffrey Taylor, Derrick Bissinger, Stephen Collins, and Matt Barnes rounds out the top five.

Fairgrounds Speedway Nashville will play host to the first annual Legendary Auto Fest and Swap Meet on June 29. The next race date for the speedway is slated for July 13. For more information, visit fairgroundsspeedwaynashville.com.
