Kyre Mullaney outran David McCoy to score the FASTRAK Pro Late Model feature victory Friday night at Lavonia Speedway in Lavonia, GA

The duo fought for the first half lap for the lead before Mullaney moved to the top spot. The fight was delayed by a caution on lap two, when Matt Duke went around in turn two.

Back under green, Mullaney moved back to the top spot, with McCoy in second and Nathan Bray in third. The second caution of the feature flew when Matt Dillard spun in turn two.

Over the closing laps, McCoy worked to close on Mullaney, but Mullaney was not to be denied, as he went on to score the victory. McCoy came home in second, with Bray in third, Frankie Beard in fourth, and Hot Rod LaMance in fifth.

In other action, David McCoy and Kenny Collins went at it at the start of the Limited Late Model feature, as they leaned on each other several times over the opening lap, with both trying to get an advantage over the other. They would race this way for the opening two laps before Collins finally moved into the lead. But McCoy was not done, as he came back again to challenge off turn four on the fourth lap, and would come away with the top spot

The caution flew on lap 14 when Daniel Fowler went around in turn two. Back under green, while McCoy continued to lead, Bubba Russell and Clayton Turner slugged it out for fourth, with Russell holding the spot. The action was interrupted again on lap 17 when Anthony Craft came to a stop on the front stretch. Back under green, while McCoy checked out up front, Turner was finally able to clear Russell for fourth. At the checkered flag, McCoy scored the victory, with Collins in second, Herring in third, Turner in fourth, and Russell in fifth.

In the Modified Street feature, Chris Cape jumped out to the early lead, with Clifton Snow in second, and Tim Bohannan in third. The first caution of the night flew on lap two, when the car of Wayne Scott spun to the inside of turn two. On the restart, Cape returned to the lead, with Snow in pursuit. Snow would look time and again for the lead, but could not make it happen. At the end, it was Cape flashing under the checkered flag first. Meanwhile, behind him, Snow had a tire going down, and found himself trapped behind a lap car. That let Bohannan get by for second. Snow finished in third, with Brandon Puckett in fourth, and Wayne Scott in fifth.

Cy Strickland and Kevin Kelley did battle for the top spot in the opening of the Stock 4 Cylinder feature, as the two raced side-by-side through turns one and two. Strickland would come away with the lead, with Kelley in second and Mitchell Godfrey in third. After a brief caution, Strickland retained the lead while Kelley and Chris Austeen fought for third. Over the next few laps, a tight four car battle for second would shape up between Kelley, Austeen, Godfrey, and Zack Sanders while Strickland checked out. Strickland went on to score the win, with Kelley in second, Godfrey in third, Austeen in fourth, and Sanders rounding out the top five.

On the drop of the green flag in the Beginner 4 Cylinder feature, Mason Tucker moved out to the early lead, but a near spin saw Tucker relegated to third. That moved Jeremy Hicks to the lead, with Payton Freeman in second. A spin by Allen Cantrell in turn two brought out the first caution. On the restart, Hicks held the lead, with Freeman and Tucker giving chase. On lap three, Hicks saw his night come to an end with a blown engine off turn four. He laid oil down on the track, sending Mitchell Ledford around as the caution flag came out.

On the restart, Freeman moved to the lead with Tucker in second. Coming to the white flag, the leaders would fight side-by-side for the lead. Tucker would take the top spot off turn two, and looked to have the victory in hand. But it all went away when Tucker had mechanical issues in turn three, slowing suddenly. That allowed Freeman to get back around him off turn four for the victory. Charles Cobb finished in second, with Tucker rolling across in third, Ledford in fourth, and Matt Locke in fifth.

The final feature of the night was for the Front Wheel Drive division. Joey Kelley jumped out the early lead, while a big fight broke out for second behind him, as J.B. Moser, Patch Aston, Tommy David and James Massey all fought for the spot. The four would trade the position time and time again, as they bumped, nudged, and pushed their way around the 3/8 mile speedway. That fight was just what Kelley wanted to see, as he motored away for the victory. Tommy David would finish second, followed by Aston, Moser, Robby Cook, and Massey.

Lavonia Speedway returns to action on Friday, May 31, featuring “Hart County Night”. Anyone displaying a valid Hart County (GA) driver’s license will be admitted to the grandstands free (this offer is for grandstands only). For more information, visit the track’s Facebook page.
