Shane Lee Captures Late Model Victory At Hickory

It was a night of firsts for Shane Lee Saturday at Hickory Motor Speedway in Hickory, NC.

Lee would take his first NASCAR Whelen All-American Series Bojangles Late Model pole, and would go on to score the feature victory.

Lee took the early lead, and never looked back for his first win the the 50 lap feature event. The race was slowed only once by a spin by Tony Pasquarello on the front stretch. Lee was followed closely by 2012 Track Champion Austin McDaniel, David Roberts, Jesse LeFevers, and Christian Calvo.

In other action, the night began with the K & P Construction 4-Cylinders with Todd Harrington setting fast time. Harrington would take the early lead followed by Nathaniel Kanupp, Donnie Harmon, Randy Canipe and Chase Pollard following in tow. Canipe would have mechanical problems on lap 18 and moved to the pits. At the checkered flag it was Harrington followed by Kanupp, Harmon, Pollard and Rob Lewis.

Brayton Haws would collect his first pole at Hickory Motor Speedway for the Paramount KIA Limited Late Models, but Landon Huffman would take the early lead, followed by Haws and a battle for third between Shane Lee and Casey Pierce. Lap seven would bring out the first caution with a spin by Allen Huffman in turn 4. On the restart Haws would take the lead from Huffman, followed by Lee, Pierce and Sheflon Clay. Caution would come out again on lap 23 for the stalled car of J.P. Dyar in turn 2. At the line, it would be Haws with the win, Huffman second, Lee third , Clay fourth, and Kaleb Pressley in fifth.

Kevin Townsend would lead the Street Stocks to the green flag but Jonathon Smith would take the early lead followed by Townsend, Marshall Sutton, Kevin Eby and Mark Whitten. Lap 12 would bring a battle for second between Sutton and Townsend but caution would interrupt the battle with a spin by Ethan Johnson in turn 4. Racing would resume with a battle for the lead between Smith and Sutton.

Whitten would spin while running fifth and bring out the second caution. Smith would continue to lead until lap 23 when Sutton would take the lead and move Smith to second. With two laps to go Smith and Sutton would battle door to door, but at the line it was Smith taking the win, followed by Sutton, Eby, Townsend and Larry Mosher.

Jeremy Birch would set fast time for the Gold King Super Trucks. Birch and Clint Fields would trade paint early for the lead. It would take 10 laps before Birch would take the point followed by Fields, Chase Campbell, Doug Barnes and a battle for fifth between Jody Church and Lee Queen. Queen would eventually take the fifth spot. Campbell would develop an electrical problem, but continued to press on and at the line it was Birch taking the win, followed by Fields, Campbell, Barnes and Queen.

Charlie Neill would set fast time in the WrenchRags Renegades for the final event of the night. Neill would take the early lead followed Greg Austin, Kenneth Roberts, Carroll McKinney and Darren Dickinson. The car of Roberts would pancake the wall hard on lap four, but did not bring out a caution. At the line it would be Neill, followed by McKinney, Austin, Dickinson, and Shawn Hayes.
