Adam Gauldin of Talladega, AL is the new point leader in the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series Old Man’s Garage (OMG) East Region after he was awarded his fifth victory of the season on Saturday night at Talladega Short Track in Eastaboga, AL driving the Adam Gauldin Racing GRT in Week 17 action.
Gauldin took the checkered flag in third-place, but was awarded the win after the engines of the apparent first and second-place finishers, Ryan King of Anniston, AL and Jimmy Elkins Jr. of Talladega, AL, were found to have illegal valve springs during the post-race technical inspection and were disqualified.
Elkins was the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series Old Man’s Garage (OMG) East Region point leader coming into the event. The disqualification drops Elkins down into the second spot of the OMG East Region standings. Gauldin netted seven points to bring his best 14-week Regional point total to 772, while Elkins has 767 points.
The NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series West Region point leader Jim McDuffie of Meridian, MS took his seventh win of the season on Friday night at Hattiesburg Motorsports Park in Hattiesburg, MS driving the H.E.
